My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Chip!

This handsome guy has had a rough start but has made great progress with our staff! Chip spent several months as a stray at Intel evading any attempts to be caught. He finally made his way to the City Shelter, where we were able to bring Chip into our care. Immediately we began working on socializing him. He spent many weeks shut down and uninterested in any attempts at affection. We decided to introduce him to another pup and the second they met Chip was like a new dog! He has become a playful, goofy pup. He likes roughhousing with his kennel mate and playing chase with the staff. He is still working on learning the leash but has made lots of progress. Chip is still slow to trust new people so he would need multiple meet and greets before going into a home. He deserves the best family and will be patiently waiting.

More about this shelter

Our shelter had it's beginnings in the mid 90's and formally became a nonprofit organization in 2001. The dream of Lee and Sophia DiClemente has grown to be the largest no-kill animal shelter in New Mexico. Lee passed in 2010, but Sophia carries on with the support of a small staff, a large number of volunteers, and numerous donors - large and small.
