Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Hoover's journey began under a car, where he was found scared and alone. With plenty of love, care, and patience, this little kitten has blossomed into a sweet, playful companion. Though a bit timid at first, Hoover is eager to trust and learn from a caring owner who can show him the safety and warmth of a forever home.
Hoover is the sweetest, most affectionate little lap cat you could hope for! This purr machine loves to snuggle up close, happily sharing his warmth and love. Hoover is still learning about the world, so he appreciates a calm environment where he can feel safe. Fast movements and loud noises can startle him, so he’d do best in a home with older children or kids who understand how to be gentle and respectful.
With his gentle, docile nature, Hoover is a natural fit for a family ready to take things slow, give him the space he needs to acclimate, and read his body language. In return, he’ll be your devoted little companion, filling your home with love and soft purrs. If you’re looking for a loving, sweet soul to join your family, Hoover is ready to be that special kitty!

Take your time getting to know the animal you wish to adopt. The pet you choose should be your pet for the rest of its life, so spend the time necessary to make the right choice. Our staff is happy to assist you in taking a dog out of the kennels or socializing with a cat in the cat room. We encourage each person in your household to get acquainted with an animal before it becomes a new member of your family. We also suggest you bring your present pets in for an introduction to the new animal to form some ideas about their compatibility. Our shelter is open Tuesday through Friday, 12-5 pm and Saturdays from 10 am-5 pm. In order to complete the adoption process, it is necessary to begin adoptions by 4:30pm.

More about this shelter
Our mission is to provide animals with loving care and lasting homes, to partner with communities striving to do the same, and to advance our no-kill legacy.
We accomplish our mission by transferring cats and dogs to our facilities from public shelters in the Bay Area and beyond when they are in danger of being euthanized due to space or financial limitations.
Pets In Need has shelters in Redwood City and Palo Alto. We have owned and operated our Redwood City shelter since 1993, and in 2019 we began operating the Palo Alto Animal Shelter in partnership with the City of Palo Alto.
Pets In Need is now operating the Palo Alto Animal Shelter. The City of Palo Alto still provides Animal Control Services for the cities of Palo Alto, Los Altos, & Los Altos Hills, CA
