Toby is the ultimate mix of Chihuahua charm and Dachshund cuteness—and his giant ears are the perfect touch of extra adorable! While we didn't quite get the Dachshund ears or short legs, he certainly got an extra long, hot dog length body!
At just 8 months old and 8 lbs, Toby is mostly grown but may top out at 9 or 10lbs. This sweet guy still has great energy, and once acclimated into his home, is so silly and sweet!
Poor Toby was surrendered to a shelter in New Mexico after his mom had passed away. Her family couldn't keep him and he was dumped at an overcrowded, high kill shelter.
Despite losing the only home he's ever known, Toby remains happy and social! He’s an affectionate and friendly boy who gets along well with everyone. He’s small but mighty in personality, always ready for a play session or a snuggle on the couch.
From Toby's foster:
"Toby is so small and so stinking cute!!!! He comes to work with me and sits on the bed on the counter and wags his tail and greets customers all day -- he is so friendly and social!!! He is also extremely cuddly and loves to snuggle in your lap or sleep in bed with you. He gets along great with other dogs too. He's truly a 10/10 pup!"
We'd like to place Toby in a home where he'll get consistent stimulation, exercise and love. A (virtual or in-person) positive reinforcement group training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence for a young guy whose self-esteem will fly high while he masters his skills. Training is so important in the future behaviors of every dog. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't make this loving choice. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of both in-person and virtual positive reinforcement / force- free trainers in your area.
Toby has been fully vetted, is up to date on his vaccines, and in great health. He is not yet neutered. Neuter must be done before he turns 1 year old and is required to finalize any adoption. If he is not neutered prior to "adoption", he will go into a foster-to-adopt. Farfel's covers the full cost of the neuter.
Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.
Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year.

We own a pet boutique named Farfel's Farm & Rescue on Pearl Street in Boulder, Colorado. We have had the good fortune to find our niche in the Boulder community and experience success. We felt it very important to "pay it forward" in gratitude. We couldn't think of a better endeavor than to save dogs who were out of time in the southern states, yet had been identified with great temperaments. We dedicate our efforts to their good health and ultimate wonderful, permanent homes.
