My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Aspen is a spirited and energetic large breed puppy looking for a family who can match his drive and enthusiasm.
~ This boy isn’t your typical pup—he’s full of potential and thrives when given a purpose. Aspen needs a highly active home with experience working with guardian breeds or high-intensity working dogs. He’ll flourish in a household that understands his need for structure, engagement, and a `job` to keep him mentally and physically fulfilled.
~ Aspen isn’t suited for first-time dog owners or those with limited experience in canine behaviour. His ideal home will be free from shared walls or apartments, as he has some separation anxiety and a tendency to be vocal.
~ With his boundless energy, Aspen would do best with teenaged children or older who can actively participate in his training and care.
~ As a young pup, Aspen has a lot to learn, including improving his impulse control and managing his mouthy and barky behaviours. To help him grow into his best self, he must be signed up for three in-person, mandatory training sessions with a certified positive reinforcement trainer before going to his new home.
If you’re looking for a dynamic, loyal companion and are committed to the time, training, and dedication this exceptional boy needs, Aspen is ready to meet you!

Regularly Exhibited Behaviours Noticed:
Jumpy
Mouthy
Under-socialized
High energy
Resource Guarding
Leash Reactivity (Barking on leash)

Explanation of Behaviours:
~ Asppen has resource guarding for food & high value items. He should always be fed separately from other animals & people. He can lack impulse control when taking treats and can take treats roughly.
~ Aspen is a high-energy dog who requires plenty of daily exercise, training, attention, and mental stimulation to thrive.
~ He needs a lot of work on his manners and self-control, particularly with challenging behaviours such as jumping and mouthing.
~ Aspen is under-socialized and will need slow, positive socialization at a pace that makes him comfortable.

This dog would benefit from:
An active home
A family with all adults or teenaged children
Ample time, attention, and training
Proper socialization and desensitization
No apartments or shared wall homes

Training needs/behaviours to work on:
Basic manners (jumping up, mouthing, self-control)
Basic training
Socialization/desensitization
Resource guarding of food & treats

Additional adoption info

Come into the Centre and if you see a pet you like, you are able to do a "Meet and Greet" with that pet. Spend some time in alone with the pet or take a dog out for a short walk. If you are still interested in adopting the pet you can meet with one of our Adoption Counsellors who will have you fill out and application and will ask you some questions about the environment in which you live. If you seem like a wonderful match and your envirnoment meets the needs of the pet then your application should be approved!
