Fostered in Dickinson, Texas
12/11/24 - Hey you! Yes, the one perusing the rescue website for a new companion to add to your family. I just happen to be in the market for a family myself. My old family where I lived for about 4 years was too busy for me. They worked long hours and had many activities going on which left me to hold down the fort. They realized that this was not letting me grow to my full potential, so decided to surrender me to YHR.
I’m in a foster home now that has one other dog. You would never even know he’s here though. We pretty much ignore each other. I am more into my humans. And I really lucked out in that department with my foster mom and dad because they are retired. I am not really sure what that means, but they say it is when you are home all of the time with your four-legged babies. Guess I’m retired too. This gets an A+ from me, because I love being with my humans. Watching TV, walking around the house from room to room, going outside and doing some gardening, chasing the lizards and squirrels, taking naps, sleeping in the bed. Well, you get the picture. I love being with my humans doing everything with them. I’m very clingy once I get to know you. I adore receiving kisses (don’t give them a lot yet though), enjoy sitting in laps and being held and get really comfortable in the bed with my people to sleep.
I’m sweet, affectionate, loyal, have a great sense of humor and am a good listener. Looking for a serious relationship with an individual (or family) with the same traits. I love to dine in (and I clean my bowl), stay up late talking or just spend quiet time together watching television. I will say that I wasn’t this charming little guy when I first arrived. I’m a timid, non-confident fella. I’m slow to warm up to new people and situations. Normal household noises and activities make me nervous. Once I get comfortable, I warm up more, but and still more reserved than your typical yorkie. Not even that much of a barker. Foster mom has taught me to LOVE a brisk stroll I the neighborhood. I will actually go sit by the door to get my harness (a must when walking) on to go on a walk. And….. I will even do my business on the walk, so don’t forget the poop bag. Not much on toys, but you never know when I will get confident enough to pick one up and play with it.
It was said that my potty training wasn’t great. I just think I needed “retired” parents so I could go out more. With no thumbs, the doorknob is hard to reach and turn. I’m sure that’s an issue for all small bladder dogs. Lol Foster mom is always raving about how good I am. If they run errands, I’m left free in the house and don’t make any accidents. Now, don’t let that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside thinking that a mistake will never be made. I’m just saying that at my foster home, I’m in tune with them and they are in tune with me and it works. It takes a village. And, I won’t stay outside without you. I like company while I’m outside, or we all go in. Foster mom says that even though I am a velcro dog, if given the chance, I could be classified as a darter. Especially around an open door or if I’m scared or get spooked. Even though I don’t mind a child or two, it would be better if they were older, because I am not about all the raised noise level and activity in the house.
I’ve heard this group makes sure that our next move is our last. I hope so, because once I love, I love hard. And starting over is devastating to us little ones. So, think long and hard before making this commitment, because I’m not packing up my things again. I’m kind of like a Scarlet Macaw. They will spend up to 50 years together. Now that’s what I call commitment! And I like it!

Yorkie Haven Rescue Group was founded in 2006 and we are an approved 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Our caring volunteers share their many talents to ensure that all yorkies we rescue from "throwaway land" are safe and can live their lives in a loving, healthy and safe environment - a haven where they will be forever loved.
We have a wonderful base of volunteers located throughout the United States, have no paid staff and are funded solely by kind donations from the public. Before any rescue is placed in a forever home, the pup is spayed/neutered, heartworm checked and made current on all vaccines.
