My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**ROO HAS BEEN ADOPTED!** This precious, adorable, and sweet tiny face belongs to one of our newest rescues, Miss Roo. Roo is a 14-pound Terrier/Chihuahua (best guess) mix, estimated to be between 1-2 years of age. Pal's Place rescued this darling little lady and her brother, Rocco, from a tragic and heartbreaking situation in their home state of Kentucky. The siblings are now in a loving and nurturing foster home on Chicago's north side, patiently waiting to find their forever homes. Roo and Rocco have already experienced too much in their young lives, and these resilient pups deserve to find their happily-ever-afters. They were abandoned in a rural area of eastern Kentucky with another littermate and left to fend for themselves. Unfortunately, the third littermate was hit and killed by a car within a day or two of being dumped. With the local animal control facility over capacity and closed to intake, they were left to roam the area they were left in. A very kind and compassionate resident in the area made them a makeshift shelter and fed them, but they were not in any position to take them in themselves. Unfortunately, another not-so-kind resident in the area was not as welcoming and did not like Roo and Rocco hanging around. This person wanted them gone and set out rat poison, which both dogs ate. If that wasn't horrible and cruel enough, they also kicked little Rocco so hard in the face that he needed to have one of his eyes removed from the damage. Thankfully, the other residents were able to get the duo to a local animal hospital in time. After several days of hospitalization, both responded well to treatment and recovered fully. Despite the cruelty they have suffered at the hands of humans, they hold no grudges and are happy, playful, loving, and affectionate dogs who still crave human companionship.

Gentle and tender Roo is a lap dog lover's dream! She loves to be held, cuddled, and loved on by her humans. She can be a little bashful when meeting new people but is easily put at ease by gentle pets, kind words, and maybe a yummy treat or two. She's quick to accept and trust; you have a loyal life companion once she does. While Roo is a very cuddly dog who lives for snuggles, she's still a young dog with some puppy energy and playfulness and would do well in a moderately active household. Her other interests include walks, toys, bones, food, sunbathing, and being close to her people. Roo is being fostered in a home with several other dogs of all sizes and gets along well with her canine housemates. While Roo and Rocco love each other and have been through a lot together, like actual siblings, they bicker with each other and demonstrate some sibling rivalry. We will not adopt them as a pair and think they will thrive in separate homes. Roo is well-behaved in the house, crate trained, and is doing excellent with her housebreaking when taken out regularly. She is a fantastic little lovebug who will make one lucky household very happy!

Roo is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested (neg), and started on monthly heartworm and flea prevention. Her adoption fee to the rescue is $375. Roo is being fostered on Chicago's north side and can be visited by appointment only after an adoption application has been completed and approved. Unfortunately, we cannot place holds on our dogs for any reason. Please do not submit an adoption application unless you are ready to meet and welcome a dog into your home within three days of applying. For more information or to receive an application, email palsplace1@hotmail.com or visit palsplacerescue.org. Adoption applications and correspondence from the rescue may end up in your spam or junk folder. If you are waiting for our reply, please check those folders regularly.

• Roo's adoption fee is $375. This fee helps to cover any necessary medical care to prepare her for adoption. Pal's Place relies solely on adoption fees and donations to care for the animals in our rescue. Your donation also helps save other dogs like Roo and Rocco from euthanasia.

• Please email Palsplace1@hotmail.com for an adoption application and put the dog's name in the subject line. Please check your spam/junk folder; sometimes, the applications end up there! We are a volunteer-run organization and do our best to respond to all inquiries within 24-48 hours.

• All of our dogs in foster homes can be seen BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an approved application has been received. To receive more info, please email palsplace1@hotmail.com. Email is the preferred method of contact and is the quickest way to receive a response. Unfortunately, we cannot hold our adoptable dogs for any reason. Please do not apply until you are prepared to adopt.

Additional adoption info

Pal's Place is a foster-based canine rescue serving Chicago and surrounding areas. We do adopt out of state, provided potential adopters are willing to make the trip to Chicago to meet the dog in person before adoption. We do not ship or transport our animals. We rescue dogs from euthanasia at overturned and open-intake animal control facilities. They are placed in foster homes, evaluated, and fully vetted before adoption. If interested in adoption, please read the information below, outlining our fees and process for adoption.

All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, wormed, and vaccinated before being placed for adoption. An adoption application and contract are required. Our adoption fees vary by dog but are generally as follows:

Senior Dogs $275 and up

Adult dogs $375 and up

Puppies (under twelve months) $475 and up

These fees help to cover the expenses of vetting, feeding, and housing the dogs we rescue. We rely solely on donations to continue our work in rescuing needy dogs.
HOW TO ADOPT:

•Step 1: Submit an application through our website at http://palsplacerescue.org/adopt/ or email palsplace1@hotmail.com for our application in PDF or Word format. Be sure to fully complete the application and ensure contact information for your veterinarian (if you have current dogs/cats in the home or within the past five years) and/or landlords (if renting) is included. We do check vet references, and we do verify if dogs are allowed in rental units. Omitting this information will slow the application process down. Pal's Place has no shelter facility. All our dogs are in foster homes or boarding facilities while they await adoption. Dogs can be seen by appointment once the rescue has approved an application. Any information we know about our available dogs is listed in their bios below this information. Please read the dog's bio thoroughly, we will not respond to emailed questions regarding our dogs if the information is already provided in their bio.

• Step 2: A volunteer will do their best to respond to your application within 24-72 hours of submission to schedule a meeting if approved. WE CANNOT HOLD DOGS FOR ANY REASON. The sooner we place a dog into a loving forever home, the sooner we can bring another in desperate need of rescue into our program. Please do not apply unless you are ready to welcome a dog into your home within three days of applying. If you are expecting a response, please check your spam or junk folder, as correspondence from us may end up there. If you haven't received a response within 72 hours, please email Samantha@palsplacerescue.org to verify your application was received.

• Step 3: Meet the dog! All adults living in the home must be present at your appointment. If all parties agree the dog is a good match for your home at the time of the visit, be prepared to take your new best friend home with you the same day. We send all our dogs home with a collar, a small bag of the food they have been eating, and their medical paperwork. An adoption contract and disclosure form will be completed at that time, and the adoption fee will be collected (each dog's individual fee is listed in the bio). Adoption fees can be paid via cash, check, Zelle, or PayPal. In the case of litters of puppies, we can no longer hold a particular puppy for visits due to a huge increase in no-shows and last-minute cancelations of meet-and-greet appointments over the past several months. An effort is made to schedule visits with puppies in the order the approved applications were received. Most of our dogs are rescued from high-intake, high-kill shelters in Kentucky. We often have very little information about the dog's past before rescue. Breed and adult size are often educated guesstimates, and we cannot guarantee either.
