My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

SCOUT was born at the Give a Dog a Home Rescue in Sebec, Maine, the night after we brought his mom, a pure bred German Shepherd Dog into our care. He was born on 21st September 2024 and has lived with his siblings, his mom and a few other teenage German Shepherd Dogs.   We post in east coast states and Canada as we have many families adopt and are happy to make the worthwhile trip up to the rescue.

We do not always have time to post all the pictures on each dogs individual page, but we do post a lot of photo's on the rescue Facebook page.

SCOUT was neutered on 25 September, he is current on his vaccinations, although he will require his rabies as he is currently too young for that vaccine. He is microchipped and at the time of his neuter surgery weighed 12.60 pounds. We do not know what breed he is mixed with, but can confidently say his mother is a German Shepherd Dog - RHEA and can be seen in the photos.

It is our policy at Give a Dog a Home Rescue to NOT adopt puppies until they are 3 months old, so that we can ensure that they are getting the crucial socialization with other dogs that they need. However, families that have another dog at home, or are looking at adopting two pups/dogs will be able to apply and adopt before she reaches 3 months of age.

SCOUT is a young pup and so his personality is in the early stages of development and so it will be the family and home environment that dictates how he behaves as he grows up. There is no reason for him to not be great around children of any ages, unless of course the child/ren make him fearful or hurt him. We do not have any age restrictions for families with children, but do expect responsible families in regards to both children and the pup and have 100% supervision when they are together.

SCOUT will need a family that has the time and means to care for a pup, which includes training, socialization and explosing him to as many environments as possible, but in a way that he is comfortable, safe and happy. He is going to be a medium/large dog and so an active lifestyle is important as well as a family understanding the mental needs and intelligence of this kind of dog. We are looking for a family that understands he will be teething, he will be going through his "teenage" phase and will be a lot of work.

Scout has an adoption fee of $550

Interested families are required to complete our application process and once approved schedule an appointment to come to the rescue in SEBEC, Maine to meet and take home their new best friend.

Our process takes 1-2 days as long as we are able to talk to references, so be prepared to be approved (hopefully) to adopt within a few days of submitting the adoption application.

More about this rescue

Founded by Jenny an English woman who found her way to Texas on 14th February 2011 in San Antonio, Texas we saved dogs from the high kill shelters in Texas.

In July 2015, Jenny relocated herself and the rescue to the beautiful state of Maine, it's weather and people much like that of her home in Northern England.

We still save dogs from the high kill shelters in Texas where dogs have just 3 days to be saved. We vet them, they have veterinary examination and are issued with health certificates and then transported to the rescue in Sebec, Maine.
