My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Mew, a beautiful cat with a bit of sass and a lot of heart! Mew came to our shelter when her family could no longer care for her, through no fault of her own. She's a sweet and independent kitty who enjoys the company of other cats and has previously lived with children. While she may take a little time to warm up to new people, once she feels comfortable, her true personality shines through.

Mew has a playful side but can also be a bit of a diva when things don't go her way! She has a strong sense of boundaries, so it's important that her future family understands how to read her body language and respect her needs. If you're patient and willing to give her the time she needs to feel safe, Mew will make a loyal and loving companion.

The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. Through its locations and operations across the province the BC SPCA provides emergency medical care and sheltering for more than 37,000 animals each year. The society also conducts more than 4,600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals through its Provincial Office.

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

3. Freedom from distress

4. Freedom from discomfort

5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
