My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Tommy!

Hello, my name is Tommy! I’m a 16-pound terrier mix, and I’ll be 6 months old this December. I’m a lively, affectionate pup with a big personality packed into my small frame. I’m always excited to meet people, and my favorite way to say hello is by jumping up for face kisses or rolling over for belly rubs. While I don’t currently live with kids in my foster home, I’m very friendly and love meeting new people.

A Little About Me:
I thrive on companionship, whether it’s playing, snuggling in your lap, or napping close by. I’ve been having so much fun with the older, bigger dogs in my foster home, and I also enjoy spending time with my brother, Timmy. Together, we play chase, share naps, and occasionally get into mischief (I’m the alpha between us, despite being the runt of our litter!).

When it comes to cats, I’m not sure how I feel just yet. I’ve met a few from a distance, but sometimes I bark or growl at them. With time and patience, I might warm up to feline friends.

My Favorite Things:

Playtime: I love chasing my brother and the other dogs, playing tug-of-war, and stealing toys.

Cuddles: When I’m not running around, you’ll find me snoozing on the couch or dog bed—or better yet, in your lap!

Treats: I’m a big fan of food and always sit politely when offered a treat.

Exploring Outdoors: While I walk well on a leash with a little encouragement, I’d much rather run freely in a fenced yard.

Training & Personality:
I’m picking up potty training quickly and rarely have accidents inside. At bedtime, I sleep quietly in my crate and wake up accident-free. I’m still working on learning commands like “no” and responding to my name, but I’m a fast learner when treats are involved!

I can be vocal when I want attention or am chatting with other animals, so I bring a lively, interactive presence to the home. My mix of playful energy and laid-back snuggle time makes me the perfect balance of fun and affection.

Why I’d Be a Great Addition:
I’m loving, outgoing, and always ready to make someone smile. Whether we’re playing, going for a walk, or relaxing on the couch, I’ll bring joy to your home every day. If you’re looking for a playful, affectionate companion who thrives on love and attention, I might just be your perfect match.

Are you ready to meet your new best friend?

More about this rescue

We are a small 501 C3 nonprofit rescue located in Elburn, Illinois. In 2014, Safe Haven Dog Rescue became its own non-profit. We are licensed by the Illinois Agriculture Department.

The majority of our dogs and puppies are pulled from Kill Pounds and Shelters in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Illinois. We also accept local medical cases as often as our finances will allow.

Please take a few moments to read the stories about the dogs and puppies we have available for adoption. We disclose everything we know about the dogs, sometimes we know a lot often we know only that they were strays, thrown away on the side of the road, in the woods, or found in abandoned houses.

While we don’t always know their past we are certain that their future is much brighter.

We hope that you and your family are part of the future…..
