Poet is a 3 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel mix ready to jot down her next chapter with her forever family. Poet came to our rescue with her babies who have since been adopted. Now, Mama is ready for a forever home of her own. This fabulously fluffy girl can’t wait to bat her eyelashes in your direction and make you fall instantly in love with her. Poet has a coat that sheds, but her coat is hair-based, not fur-based. She loves being brushed so prepare to spend hours petting her soft hair as she pulls you into her warm expression. If you’re looking to write a love haiku with a furry friend, Poet can’t wait to join your pack!

Poet loves cuddles and snuggles and is excited to find a home where she can shower her people in love. She takes a few days to settle in, but once she does, she’s ready to lounge the day away in your arms. Poet is the kind of dog who is hoping to find her one and only human, as she bonds quickly to those she trusts. Poet is very much a couch potato (until someone knocks on the door, then she absolutely needs to check it out). She isn’t super interested in toys and much prefers the cuddles of her humans. She’s not going to be a dog who wants to join you on a long hike, but she’s happy to join you on a romp around the block. Her dream home is a quiet home where the daily routine is similar across the week. She feels most confident when she knows what the daily agenda is, and hopes it includes a ton of snuggles. Poet is super smart and highly trainable. She already knows a ton of tricks and we can’t wait to see her learn more, perhaps even some agility!

Poet wakes up at 7 AM and goes outside to potty before she settles into her soft bed in the home office. She loves lounging as the rain falls down outside her window. She loves being with her people and would love to join a home where her humans work from a home office, so she can shower you in affection all day. Poet tends to graze at her kibble throughout the day rather than eating at specific mealtimes. She goes for short walks when her humans need breaks from the desk. Her favorite times of the day are when a human asks her for some cuddles. She flies across the room and leaps into your lap!! In the evening, Poet hangs out in the living room with her people until she’s ready for bed. She goes out for one last potty break and then settles into her crate for the night.

Poet gets along with dogs who are happy to coexist rather than play with a furry sibling. She is also totally content to share space with a kitty. Poet prefers women to men, but eventually opens up to anyone with enough patience and treats. Poet walks well on a leash.

Poet is only an option for homes who have owned dogs of their own and are ready for the patience required to win over a shy dog. Poet would prefer an adult-only home.

More about this rescue

We are passionate folks who love dogs and love people! We strive to make the most appropriate match between human and canine. Because our dogs live in foster homes we know about their temperament and personality and therefore can help families and individuals decide if the dog is a good match or not. We are excited to help people find the right pooch for them and look forward to meeting great folks and welcoming them into the DPS Family.
