Miss Ruby is a beautiful and very intelligent almost 5-month-old Irish Setter who loves being on the go! She has a gorgeous red coat. She loves her toys and playing in the backyard—patrolling the fence has become a hobby of hers—so a fenced yard is a must. She’s crate trained and has only the very occasional accident. She’s still a puppy but has learned to indicate at the door when she needs to go out. She does well when left in her crate when the family has to go out for a few hours. Ruby loves her foster (dog) sisters and plays with them constantly. They are much bigger than her, but that is not an issue. Pack walks have been a fun activity and are helping her learn how to walk on a leash pretty well although she can be stubborn and want to do her own thing at times (like staying outside when it’s time to come in or chasing something that has peaked her interest). Ruby is like a typical toddler because everything goes in her mouth so redirection to her favorite toys is needed. She loves playing with her toys or anything else she can get her paws on. It would probably be best that she not live with small children as she likes to play and rough house with everyone. She’s still learning to bond with humans and would much rather snuggle with her foster sisters but this is something she could learn in time as she bonds with her forever family. She loves affection but doesn’t seek it out from people. Ruby is already sleeping through the night and is getting used to a routine of watching her foster dad work from home while getting breaks to go outside and play. She does great on car rides. Ruby needs a family that is active and loves being outdoors. It would be helpful to have one or more dogs that she could continue to learn from. She does love to dig, so a watchful eye will help her learn. Like all puppies Ruby will need to have potty breaks every 2-3 hours and to continue her socialization with people and other dogs. Obedience training is highly recommended. A fenced yard is also important so she has space to run around and burn off all her puppy energy. If you live in the Central Florida/Orlando area and believe your family has the time, energy and love to devote to raising an active puppy, please send in an application and let us know more about your family.
