My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Working Cat***The Maryland SPCA is helping cats who aren't suited for a traditional home environment. The purpose of this program is to offer a safe home and a more comfortable life to cats that wouldn't otherwise thrive in our adoption program. Barns, warehouses, breweries, and garages are all examples of what a Working Cat would call home. These cats can be under socialized to humans, have litter box issues unrelated to health, or cats that have come from a previous indoor/outdoor situation that can provide you a valuable service by keeping rodents away; the all-natural way!

Molly is an independent, medium-energy cat with a playful streak and a fondness for scaling high places around the house. She loves to explore and will happily bat at any toy you give her, from crinkly balls to dangling wand toys. While Molly can be social with her family, she's more reserved around visitors and may hide when strangers come over. She enjoys her own space and prefers a home where her independence is respected. Occasionally, Molly was allowed to explore her previous owner's backyard, and while she liked her outdoor adventures, she made it clear that other cats were not welcome in her territory. Molly would do best in a home with older children who can give her the space and patience she needs. She tends to ignore younger kids or hides under the couch if they get too close, so a calmer environment suits her better. She will thrive as the only pet in the household where she can be the queen of her domain. With time and trust, Molly's playful side will shine, and she'll reward her new family with quiet affection, bursts of playfulness, Indoor outdoor fun and plenty of entertaining antics from her favorite high perches.

More about this shelter

The Maryland SPCA connects wonderful pets to loving owners. We are not affiliated with any national animal organization, and we do not receive any government or United Way funding. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals through fostering the humane relationship between animals and people. We operate primarily in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.

To make sure that our dogs and cats do not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem, every one is spayed or neutered before going into a new home. The cost is included in the adoption fee, as are the costs of shots and other necessary care. In addition, a free Positive Pooch class is available to our dog adopters.

There is no set time limit for how long an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as an animal maintains general good health and a sound temperament, we keep him or her until adopted. We pride ourselves on providing premium care to the animals in a clean, pleasant environment. Our adoption staff works diligently to pair up adopters with the best animal match for their homes and lifestyles.

We transport animals from other shelters to our adoption center to help more animals get adopted. We also help pet owners find new homes for their pets so their animals don’t need to enter shelter care.
