Beau is a very sweet little guy, with a gentle soul. He bonds closely with his
person and likes to follow them around the house, always choosing sleeping spots
where he can point his nose in their direction. When Beau is very happy he does a
funny little dance that brings smiles to everyone nearby. Beau is friendly with
strangers and very gentle and unfazed by kids of any age. Beau’s favourite
activities include checking out new smells outdoors, digging, and cuddling with his person. Beau loves one on one attention, getting belly rubs, and face massages.
When Beau initially arrived with us, he presented with a few anxiety behaviours
that have almost all disappeared as the weeks have gone by. Initially, he was
mounting, marking indoors, and barking continuously in the evening when he
wasn’t engaged in a stimulating activity. Within a week or two the marking andmounting stopped and have not returned.
He is a bit picky with his food, often wanting to try new foods and getting
bored of them. He loves greenies and things he can chew on. When he is finished
with a chew stick he will bury it with his nose. He also loves to pick up and eat
paper products (Kleenex, cardboard etc), when he is exploring outside or restless
inside, so we tend to need something on hand to trade (he does not guard his
food, but he will try to hold cardboard/Kleenex in his mouth firmly until
presented with an alternative). Beau has significant hearing loss, and so needs
visual signals. He is eager to please/learn. He is not sure what to do with toys, but
he has a lot of fun digging and hunting.
Best home scenario: Beau gets along with others easily, so he would do well in a
home with or without kids, and other pets. Beau is not anxious being left alone.
He tends to sleep much of the day, and then is active and somewhat restless in
the evening. So, he would do well in a home that can provide him with
opportunities to spend lots of time outside, which is what he loves to do when he
is feeling restless. His current environment is an apartment building, and he has
worked as long as he gets significant time on a leash outside to slowly wander and
sniff. I am sure he would love a backyard if that was an option. He would also do
well in a home where he can bond closely with someone, and receive direct
attention and reassurance.
