My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Nina von Norden is a beautiful, 18-month-old German Shepherd. Are you looking for a friendly, beautiful dog who shines in all social situations? Nina is your girl! There really isn’t anything this superstar can’t do! She walks fantastically on leash, heeling by your side, happy and ready to start her day. She loves to say “hi” to people and dogs alike, always greeting new friends with a wagging tail. Her prior owner told us that she was good with children. In her pup playgroups, she is an amazing greeter when approaching other dogs and inviting them to play. This sweet and loving girl will seriously melt your heart when she stares at you with her googly eyes and leans on you for cuddles. She always gives you her paw to remind you that she will stay by your side through thick and thin! She takes treats gently and is exceptionally good at “sit.” Nina also appears to be good with cats and other small animals – she just doesn’t discriminate against any potential new friend! We can all strive to be Nina in life, but come and see if Nina is right for your happy home. She can’t wait to meet you!

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
