If your ideal companion enjoys a refreshing run to the lake for a quick dip and then curling up for hours of cuddling, Oreo Jack may just be your ideal match. He’s the perfect blend of youthful energy and laid-back charm—full of enthusiasm for life, yet content to relax with you as your cozy buddy.
Oreo Jack was found lost and confused in an East Austin park on Halloween. Neighbors spent hours trying to catch him without success, but when a family came to search for him and left their van door open, Oreo Jack happily jumped in and accepted cuddles from the kids. He quickly adjusted to life in his foster home, which includes a mom, a dad who works from home, two children (ages 6 and 10), a German Shepherd mix, and a Beagle mix foster sibling. Oreo Jack enjoys playing with others dogs and chewing/tugging on his favorite rope toy. He knows basics commands and is very treat motivated. When the kids brainstormed words to describe him, they came up with: `sweet, kind, loving, expressive, loyal, funny, playful, loves to lick, goofball, and always lays on feet.`

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day! For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites. For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.
Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older
