Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance from West Chester, PA for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit.
Meet Mickey – Your New Best Friend!
Breed: Chihuahua (Long Hair) Age: Approximately 10 years Weight: 11 lbs Good with: Dogs, Older Kids (16+), Cats (Not listed, but might be good with them) Energy Level: Medium Location: [Your Location]
Mickey is a sweet and spunky senior pup with a heart full of love and a great sense of adventure! At around 10 years old, Mickey is looking for a calm, loving home where he can be part of the family. Though he’s a bit shy at first, once he warms up to you, Mickey is all about the snuggles, belly rubs, and enjoying quiet moments together.
Mickey loves to explore the yard, enjoys his daily walks, and relishes lounging on his orthopedic bed or curling up on the sofa with his doggy friends. He’s friendly with other dogs, both large and small, and while he’s not a fan of being restrained, he does well in an open space where he can move around freely.
What Mickey Needs:
Mickey is best suited for a home with other calm dogs and humans who are around most of the day. He enjoys being around his pack and likes to have access to a yard for exploring. Mickey does well with frequent walks, but would absolutely prefer a yard where he can roam and feel independent.
Due to his history of being sensitive about his face being touched, Mickey would do best in a home with older kids (16+), who can respect his space and understand his boundaries. He does not like to be restrained, but he is happy to sit on your lap when you're relaxing, as long as he’s not being held.
Mickey is still working on his house training but does well when taken out regularly. He’s very smart and listens well to the word "no," so with patience, he could become fully housebroken.
Health Considerations:
Mickey has been through a lot in his life, but he’s resilient and thriving in his foster home. He was treated for a URI and ear infections, and had several teeth extracted as part of a dental procedure. He also had a neuter surgery. While he does shake his head and sometimes his hind end (which may be neurological), it doesn’t slow him down. He has not had any seizures during his time in foster care, but it’s something to keep in mind. Mickey doesn’t require medication at this time and enjoys his meals, treats, and playtime just like any other dog.
Ideal Home:
Mickey would thrive in a quieter home where someone is around for most of the day. He enjoys the company of other dogs and would benefit from having a laid-back doggy companion. A house with a yard for outdoor exploration would be perfect, though he would do well with regular walks if there’s no yard. He is not a fan of being crated, so a dog-proofed area with a baby gate works best for him when left alone.
Likes:
•Being part of the pack
•Meal time (he’s very food-focused!)
•Exploring the yard
•Sunbathing
•Cuddling on the sofa or in bed
•Laying on his orthopedic bed
•Company of other calm dogs
Dislikes:
•Being restrained (does not like being held or put in a crate)
•Facial touching (likely due to past ear infections and dental issues)
•Cold weather and being dressed up in clothes
Why You'll Love Mickey: Mickey is a sweet, low-maintenance companion who just wants to be loved and cherished. Once he trusts you, he’s loyal and affectionate, giving little kisses and enjoying time with his human and doggy friends. Mickey listens well, is house trained with some help, and is just a great little dog to have by your side.
If you're looking for a loving, calm companion who enjoys a quiet life but also loves a good adventure in the yard, Mickey might be the perfect fit for your family.
