Meet Duke, a friendly and cuddly adult dog who`s always alert and ready to play. Despite his confidence, he can be a bit nervous at times and is not a fan of being in a kennel. Duke has a cooperative spirit, always eager to please those around him. However, he does have a tendency to whine when he`s uncomfortable or anxious. Despite his minor quirks, Duke`s joyful disposition shines through. His happiness is contagious and he`s always ready to share a cuddle or a game. Duke is a model of good behavior, always respectful to his fellow canine friends and a joy around children. He weighs 33 pounds and his house-trained and leash-trained manners will make him a perfect addition to your home. Duke is more than just a shelter dog, he`s a companion waiting for a forever home where he can spread his joy and love. Adopt Duke and let his cheerfulness brighten your days. (tw 11/23/2024)

Pet Adoption Fees
CAP adoption fees include a variety of services - age-appropriate vaccinations, canine heartworm, and feline leukemia tests, spaying/neutering, deworming treatment, microchipping to name a few - the total value of which exceeds $450. These minimal adoption fees cover only part of each animal's stay at our shelter - please help us keep adoption fees low while maintaining the high quality of care for the animals in our charge by donating and/or volunteering.

Dogs
A second dog or puppy, adopted within 30 days of the first adoption receives a $20 discount.

Any dog/puppy adopted at the same time as a cat/kitten will be adoptable at a $20 discount.

Citizens For Animal Protection, founded in 1972, is committed to sheltering, rescuing, and placing homeless animals in loving homes; advocating respect and compassion for all animal life; providing humane education to prevent animal cruelty; and raising awareness in the community of the needs of animals.

CAP is proud to announce that through life-saving adoption and transfer programs and a lot of hard work, we have maintained a placement rate of over 93% for all homeless pets surrendered to our shelter in 2021. In 2021, CAP provided care for 10,260 animals; this includes animals surrendered by the public and transferred in from animal control agencies and rescue groups, animals already in the shelter and foster care program, feral cats trapped/neutered/returned and animals receiving vaccinations and other treatments in our low-cost vaccination clinic, The Cornelius Clinic.
