My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.

Jenga's story.
It's long, but I'll try my best to give the condensed version. Jenga is a stray in an area where many dogs are dumped/abandoned. My friend, Christy, has been feeding him and we had him neutered a couple months ago. Jenga is a friendly guy- he loves kids and other dogs. He bothers no one. He just mostly hung out around Christy's house bc he knows he gets fed there and he likes Mama Christy. A week after he was neutered, he went missing for the day and had Christy pretty worried. But since he was a street dog, he sometimes does go on adventures, but returns quickly. She tried to confine him but he was able to jump/climb her wire fence. Anyway, he drug himself home in the middle of the night, leaving a blood trail down the street. We were unsure what happened- maybe he had been hit by a car? Shot? Attacked by another dog or predator? Anyway, he lost A LOT of blood but made it, with the help of Christy and Dr. Beach. Dr. Beach thought he would probably lose his ear, or possibly both ears, but he has recovered well. After talking with neighbors, we found out what happened to him. It was witnessed. There are some very bad people who live down the street. They are known dog fighters. Everyone knows. The police know but won't do anything about it. Multiple calls have been made. We've contacted every national organization we can think of, with not a single offer from anyone to do anything to stop the illegal dog fighting activity. Christy's neighbor witnessed these sub humans lure Jenga into their fenced yard, where their fighting dogs live on logging chains, and threw him in the middle with them, while they stood on the porch laughing, as he was mauled almost to death. He got lucky that day and escaped, but barely. His wounds were severe. His suffering was incomprehensible. The cost to save him was nothing to ignore either, but I had it at the moment it was needed so we used it.

Now for the happy part, one of our amazing fosters took him in so that he would be off the streets and safe! It's time for Jenga to find his forever home. He deserves it.

He does very well inside and is a gentleman. He is a wonderful dog who is so full of love. He would be your best friend. Your ride or die. Literally on the ride part- he will jump into any open vehicle because he absolutely LOVES going for rides. He doesn't even complain if you turn the music up too loud or slam on the brakes or jump the curb. He is so kind and sweet, and trusting. Even though those people did something so cruel, his sweet heart would trust them again and it would be a deadly mistake.
Please consider opening your home to this wonderful boy. He loves kids and other dogs. He is great with even tiny dogs - his favorite running buddy on the streets was a 6 lb chihuahua that's mean as a snake and bosses Jenga around.

More about this rescue

Adopt-A-Stray was founded in Jan. 2010, by Kelley Prichard. Since then, it has grown to include a few wonderful volunteers who work very hard to help ensure that our pets are place in loving, forever homes. We are based in Alexander, AR, but we list all of our available pets in the northeast. We work with several different transporters to get our babies to their new homes in the northeast once they are adopted. The transporter we use most often Pack Leaders (www.plrdogtransport.com). All pets are given age appropriate vaccinations before they leave. Every pet is seen by our vet prior to transport. If you see a pet listed that interests you, please be sure to read the description thoroughly and inquire to the email address listed. Thank you for considering a rescue dog!
