Dog Name: Tanni
Breed: Mix
Sex: female
Age: approximately 7 years
Weight: 80 pounds
Medical Needs: Tanni is heartworm positive. She will be receiving her first treatment on January 13th and will have two more treatments one month later. She is receiving her treatments at Animal Veterinary Center in Bear, DE. These appointments are covered by Grass Roots and keeping them is a condition of adoption.
Housebroken: Yes
Crate trained: Yes, goes in on command for a treat. She does get FOMO and voice her displeasure if she feels she's missing out out something fun, especially if you're taking other dogs for a walk without her, and will express great offense if you do not let her out of her crate and greet her as soon as you get home. Her bark is LOUD, so probably no apartment living for this girl.
Good in the car: absolutely loves car rides. She does well when tethered in the back, otherwise she will try to climb up front.
Good on a leash: She is VERY strong and pulls and needs a prong collar. Otherwise, she's not bad (unless you see a fox on your walk.) She does pull a bit when she sees other dogs as well.
Energy level: low with bursts of zoomies and playfulness. Her happy hops when she gets excited are adorable. She also enjoys short periods of play with her toys. But mostly she wants to lay on the couch with you and spend her day snoozing away. She does love her walks and would always be happy to go on an adventure with you.
Need a fenced in yard: No
Dog Friendly: She needs a slow and structured and introduction to new dogs. She has acclimated to living with her foster's two dogs, but has some resource guarding around food and toys so needs to be closely monitored under certain circumstances. Once learning her routines and triggers, this is not too difficult to manage. She would not do well living with any overly assertive, or in your face dogs, or dogs who would not be able to read her cues.
If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No, she would be happy to be the center of attention
Cat Friendly? Yes
Kid Friendly: Has not met any kids in current foster home, but her foster family in Georgia reported that she was good and gentle with kids of all ages.
If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? I would feel most comfortable saying 8 and up. She is a big girl and does jump and mouth a little bit when she gets excited. Kids would need to know not to leave any food within her reach as well.
Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them?
Tanni is a very sweet and funny girl. She lived with a family until her owner passed away and she ended up at a "rescue" in Georgia. It's clear that Tanni is used to the good life and enjoys her couch time, head scratches, and treats. She likes to look out the window and keep watch over the neighborhood. She gets adorable bursts of energy, especially when first let out of her crate, but mostly enjoys cuddling with people on the couch and demanding pets. She loves ear scratches, butt scratches, and belly rubs. Tanni gets very attached to her people and is a loyal companion. She has not been destructive at all, but make sure you don't leave any food on the counter in her reach, she will snatch it up quicker than you can blink. Tanni loves to go for walks and car rides, so she's happy to hang out with you at home or go on and adventure.
