My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lacey is an almost 12 year old senior Boston with the energy of a much younger dog.  She needs a forever foster (the rescue continues to cover medical expenses) or an adopter.  You would never know her age by how playful she is. She’s very smart and has excellent hearing and eyesight. She loves to throw around her toys, lay in the sun on warm days and explore the back yard. She’s a very vocal dog and loves attention. She will give you her paw when she wants to be petted and bark at you when she’s ready to play. During the day she loves napping in her bed but would prefer to snuggle in bed under a blanket with you at night.

Weight:  25

Spayed/Neutered: Yes

Microchipped: Yes

Vaccines Up-to-Date: Yes

On Heartworm Prevention: Yes

On Flea/Tick Prevention: Yes

House-Trained: Yes, also uses pads occasionally.  We have a dog door and Lacey learned how to use it just a couple of days.  She has had minimal accidents inside since but prefers to use a pad if it’s cold or rainy.

Crate Trained: Yes, she does not like being confined to a separate room away from you but is very calm in her crate.

Leash Skills: some pulling

Medical: Lacey has a heart condition and takes daily medication. She will occasionally cough or have dizzy spells if she gets over exerted but these have decreased significantly since she settled into her foster home and started taking medication. She has some allergies and itchiness but takes a daily probiotic that keeps it under control.

Likes/Dislikes

Toys: She loves tossing around her toys and will bark at you to play fetch

Other Animals: She does ok with other dogs but would do better as an only dog or with those who are submissive.  She gets a bit jealous if she has to share toys or attention. She does not like other dogs getting close to her face. She is good with cats.

People/Kids: She will bark at new people but is friendly once she’s had time to adjust. Her former owners said she did not like being around small children.

Car Rides: Loves riding in the car

Separation: She does fine when left at home but does bark when you return.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption fee is generally based on the dog's age and provides for neutering or spaying, all required shots, heartworm testing (we endorse "the new moxie-doxy" treatment for heart worms).

It is our expectation & a requirement that heartworm preventative be continued as well as any required vet visits after the pet is adopted.

If for some reason a match isn't made the first time around and you are approved, we will keep your application on file for the next opportunity to arise. Our primary goal is to place a dog in the most suitable environment, based on the animal's individual needs and its temperament. The commitment is lifelong and the Boston's interests are always foremost.

More about this rescue

All breeds have their own particular needs and rescued pets often have special requirements as well, very often in want of medical care, often lacking nourishment and kindness, and often expensive to rehabilitate.

Because we have had Boston Terriers for many years, we are very familiar with their habits, peculiarities and their special needs.

We operate across the southeast under the auspices of the Boston Terrier Rescue Network. We share information and resources in all of the USA with affiliated Boston Rescues.
