My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What Makes Me So Special

Beatrix Potter is a female miniature Boston Terrier, approximately 11 years old. This little girl has a lot of energy for her age and loves both people and other pets. She is super-sweet, enjoying sitting in laps, cuddling on the couch, and taking a nap wherever her humans are. She would do best in a home with someone who is not away from home for extended periods of time (i.e. not more than a typical 8-hour work day), and having a fenced-in area would be best but not a must.

The Basics

Age: Approximately 11 Years Old

Weight: 8.5 lbs

Spayed/Neutered: Yes

Microchipped: Yes

Vaccines Up-to-Date: Yes

On Heartworm Prevention: Yes

On Flea/Tick Prevention: Yes

House-Trained: Yes

Crate-Trained: Yes

Leash Skills: Does not seem to have had a lot of lease exposure in the past but is fine when on a lease. If she will be on a leash regularly, it may take a few days for her to get totally comfortable with it.

Medical: Right eye was removed November, 2024 due to advanced Glaucoma. Has a cataract in left eye, but does have some vision out of it and is on a daily maintenance drop (one drop, once a day) to help prevent that eye from getting worse and/or developing Glaucoma (she does well when getting her daily eye drop). She gets around well, only occasionally bumping into things, but learns her new spaces quickly. As a dog that is a little older, she is a little wobbly when standing or walking on a significant slope, but this appears to be age related versus any identifiable medical issues. Has some hearing loss, but not dramatic.

Likes/Dislikes: Likes to cuddle and snuggle up with you for a nap. Likes sleeping in the bed (though is fully crate trained and does well in the crate). Likes to be held. Enjoys exploring new areas. Dislikes when she can smell food and she doesn’t get any, likely due to her recent rescue from being on her own and not having access to much.

Toys: Has not shown much interest in toys, mainly due to her not being able to see them very well.

Other Animals: Excellent with dogs and cats.

People/Kids: Excellent with all types and ages of people.

Car Rides: Is a great car rider.

Separation: No separation issues.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption fee is generally based on the dog's age and provides for neutering or spaying, all required shots, heartworm testing (we endorse "the new moxie-doxy" treatment for heart worms).

It is our expectation & a requirement that heartworm preventative be continued as well as any required vet visits after the pet is adopted.

If for some reason a match isn't made the first time around and you are approved, we will keep your application on file for the next opportunity to arise. Our primary goal is to place a dog in the most suitable environment, based on the animal's individual needs and its temperament. The commitment is lifelong and the Boston's interests are always foremost.

More about this rescue

All breeds have their own particular needs and rescued pets often have special requirements as well, very often in want of medical care, often lacking nourishment and kindness, and often expensive to rehabilitate.

Because we have had Boston Terriers for many years, we are very familiar with their habits, peculiarities and their special needs.

We operate across the southeast under the auspices of the Boston Terrier Rescue Network. We share information and resources in all of the USA with affiliated Boston Rescues.
