3 simple steps to adopt
View available pets online or in person
Begin the process by checking out our available pets to find someone you’re interested in. Our website is updated in real-time, so you can always double-check an animal’s availability before visiting.

Meet your match
Adoptions are completed in person on a first-come, first-served basis (except for large barnyard pets). No appointment is needed for animals at the Adoption Center. You will meet with our adoption counselors to find the best match for you!

Welcome your new pet home
Found your match? You're ready to sign the adoption contract! You'll usually bring your new family member home the same day. We'll give you all the information you need to help make the transition successful!

More about this shelter

Asheville Humane Society is about hope, not heartache. As Buncombe County’s critical safety net since 1984, we are always here to save and protect every animal. We have mastered the art of saving lives within our walls and now we are going even further, helping our community’s pets and their people thrive together. We are going beyond a no-kill community to ensure that each animal has the quality of life they deserve – a life worth living.
