My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

🐾 Opal: The Sweetest Little Soul Ready for a Fresh Start 🐾

At just 6 months old, Opal has already been through so much. This Chihuahua/Dachshund mix might have the saddest little eyes, but behind them is a heart full of hope for a loving forever home. 💔✨

Opal is a sweet, snuggly girl who's still figuring out the world. She's not potty trained yet, so she'll need a patient family to guide her as she learns. She also has the potential to live with other dogs and cats, making her a great addition to a pet-friendly household.

All Opal wants is love, kindness, and a chance to grow up in a home where she feels safe and cared for.

More about this shelter

The Associated Humane Societies rescues stray and homeless animals, both domestic and wildlife, providing quality care and sanctuary until loving homes can be found. As a community-based organization, we provide low-cost veterinary care and humane education to promote responsible pet guardianship throughout New Jersey.

For over a century we have offered a haven to abused and neglected animals. Founded in 1906, AHS is the largest animal sheltering system in New Jersey, operating three shelters located in Newark, Forked River, and Tinton Falls. Our Forked River facility also includes Popcorn Park. Established in 1977, Popcorn Park is a sanctuary for abandoned, injured, ill, exploited, abused or elderly wildlife, exotic and farm animals, and birds.

The Society is a not for profit, 501(c)3 organization and we take pride in our devotion to the thousands of animals that come through our doors looking for a better life.

Please visit our website AHSCares.org for additional information.
