My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Say hello to Massimo!

This young boy is full of energy and loves to play in our yard with his toys. He is very tidy and fully house-trained. He came from a home with a small breed dog and he gets along with the other dogs in the shelter so with proper introductions he would be great in a home that is looking for a second dog. His life experience has been very limited and he is still getting used to the world so he does need a lot of support and encouragement to feel safe when experiencing new places and new things. Massimo struggles with this when he goes on leashed walks and pulls the leash because he is scared. Massimo's new home will need to teach him how to feel secure by slowly introducing him to his new world with lots of praise and positive rewards. While he has been with us in the shelter he has shown signs of distress when he is left alone and in a home this may present as barking and whining. He would benefit from a home that has a flexible work schedule that allows him plenty of time with his new family and learning to be left alone through small increments.
Do you think you could be Massimo's forever home? Come to the Burnaby SPCA during our adoption hours and meet him in person!

The society also conducts more than 4,600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals through its Provincial Office.

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

    Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

    Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

    Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

    1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

    2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

    3. Freedom from distress

    4. Freedom from discomfort

    5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
