Overview

Meet Bella, a delightful approximate 14-year-old red short-haired dachshund looking for her perfect retirement home. At 19 pounds, this sweet lady has plenty of love to give and proves that age is just a number! She's a resilient soul who's ready to become someone's cherished companion.

Environment

Bella is seeking a home where she can enjoy a perfect balance of gentle activity and cozy relaxation. She's house-trained and does wonderfully in any living situation, though she'd appreciate a yard for casual exploring. A true homebody, Bella prefers to have company around as she can get a bit anxious when left alone. She's happy left to her own devices and walks beautifully on a leash, making her an adaptable companion for various lifestyles.

Bella’s foster says:

“She is so sweet and so resilient. Would make a great companion to sleep in bed at night and

take along anywhere as long as you don’t mind taking your time walking.”

Pets & People

Bella is a social butterfly who does great with everyone she meets! She lived with children in her previous home and has proven to be wonderful with people of all ages. In her foster home, she's been amazing with the other dogs, confidently finding her place in the pack. While she gets along with all dogs, she would likely prefer a calmer household with senior dogs or even being an only dog where she can soak up all the attention.

Health

Bella is in good health for her age, though she does require a prescription diet to manage bladder stones. She has a few lumps that the vet has identified as harmless fatty lipomas. Like many of us, she's working on losing a couple of pounds, but that just means more opportunity for gentle walks with her new family!

Location

Bella is available for adoption from Morrisville, NC. She's a wonderful car passenger, making travel a breeze. Please email caitlin.simmons18@gmail.com with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. Her adoption fee will be $250.00.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

6 Step Adoption Process

1) Application - (While we encourage you to let us know on your application if one of our dogs has captured your interest, we use this simply as a guide for matching and your listing of specific dog in no way implies claim to this particular dog)

NOTE: Adoption Applications expire 6 months from the date of receipt. If you have already submitted an Adoption Application and it has been longer than 6 months, you will need to fill out a new Adoption Application.

2) Reference Checks - All references will be checked prior to home visit. We will contact your current vet, if you have one, for a reference.

3) Application Review - Processor reviews the application, calls the vet if you have one, verifies vaccinations and spay/neuter. We email personal references (if email is provided) or call them if necessary. Email is best since as references can respond when they are available.

4) Home Visit - A volunteer will come to your home to visit with you and discuss care of dachshunds. Also, the volunteer will look for any potential problems and check to be sure that your fencing is secure. Your home visit does not mean you have been approved.

5) Approval - After the above steps have been completed all your information will be reviewed and a decision will be made about adoption. If at this point you are approved to adopt, LPDR will help guide you to the appropriate dog for your family.

6) Contract - For the protection of the dogs we place, everyone that adopts a dachshund from LPDR will be required to sign an adoption contract.

Go meet their pets

Are you looking for an opportunity to foster a dachshund? Fostering is our transitional step from a shelter/surrender to a forever home. During this time it’s important that we give each dachshund a safe environment where it can learn to trust again, to heal and to learn how to become a loving family member. Many of the dachshunds that we pull from shelters or receive from an owner surrender just need a temporary home until their new forever home can be found. Please go to our website (www.LittlePawsDR.org) to learn more.

More about this rescue

Little Paws Dachshund Rescue is a foster-based, non-profit animal rescue that specializes in finding permanent homes for dachshunds, dachshund mixes, and other small dogs. It is LPDR’s goal to identify abandoned, mistreated, or homeless dogs and oversee their treatment and well being while working to find loving owners for those in our care. We strive to make the lives of all dogs better through action, advocacy, awareness and education.
