My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

JUST NEEDS TIME TO TRUST:  Approx. 6 years old / Approx. 20 lbs.

Hi, my name’s Piper!  I had a home, but – unfortunately – my previous owner lost their home, and could not take me given their circumstances.  That turned my world upside down and makes me very sad.  However, Mostly Mutts is my hero and they have welcomed me with open arms and are going to find a great new home for me!

• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I came in with another dog friend but haven’t met other dogs at Mostly Mutts yet, so let’s meet! My former owner reported that I liked some other dogs. / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, but my former owner reported that I liked the kids I met while I was with them though I don’t recall their ages. So, if you have kids, let’s meet and I think older kids will be best for me as I’ve shown some nervous guarding behaviors.

• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  As you can imagine, losing my home has made me unsure of my new situation at the shelter.  The volunteers began – day one – going slowly with me and helping me realize that I am in a loving place … a temporary step to my new ‘happily ever after’.  I came in pretty nervous, showed some guarding behaviors and did not like to be hovered over, so the volunteers started by letting me come to them which made me feel secure. I am improving every day … with love and attention at my speed. The MM volunteer photographer reported that I was a ‘little cutie’ who is ‘sweet and friendly’.  And for my 2nd bath, my bather reported that I was a happy little camper who trotted right out of my kennel with my tail wagging and was so calm and sweet for my bath as I stared up at her with the sweetest puppy dog eyes.  See what consistent love and patience do?  I may still likely need a muzzle for vetting and grooming, but even with that – time will tell. / My former owner reported that I had a higher energy level, but at Mostly Mutts it’s approximately 4-6 right now, of course this may change as I adjust in my new home.

• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  My previous owner said I knew the ‘sit’ and ‘stay’ commands, so brushing up on those would be a great place to start and learn even more commands. / At the shelter, I’m doing better in my crate now that they have moved me next to the doggie friend I came in with. My former owner reported that I was crate trained. / My former owner also reported that I was potty trained and my potty manners have been good on the shelter schedule,  so hopefully that will be the case in my new home too.

• LIKES/DISLIKES:  In my previous home, I enjoyed going out in the yard with the other dog and my family, so I could run around – so fun!  As I get more comfortable, I’m sure my love for outside playtime will return.  I am now starting to accept and love cuddles from the volunteers. / I don’t think I’d like it if I was rushed into new situations, so give me some time to adjust please.  I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training.

• MEDICAL:  I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. I’ve just had a dental cleaning so my mouth is fresh again.

I am looking for a great home where I will be a cherished family member!  My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

Mostly Mutts Animal Rescue & Adoption's Adoption Process

Our facility is currently open to the public Monday-Saturday, 11-3. We welcome you to come meet our adoptable Mutts & Kitties! Please keep in mind the following:

Many of our adoptable Mutts & Kitties are in foster homes, so please call 770-272-6888 to find out if the pet you are interested in is at our facility. With an approved application we can set up meet & greets and adoptions with a pet in foster care.

Who We Are:

Mostly Mutts is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization, staffed almost entirely by volunteers!

Our Mission is to help the Unwanted, Abandoned, Abused and Sick animals in our local counties. We fulfill this mission by working closely with County Animal Control Facilities, saving those who are in imminent danger of euthanasia, or those with needs which require specialized vet care that many other groups will not consider: major orthopedic issues, heartworm positive treatment, skin conditions, neglect and abuse
