My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:

This pet was brought in by a community member.

Why this bird might be the one for you.

Calling all pigeon aficionados or wannabe pigeon aficionados, we have John Paul who needs a home. He is a a striking bird with his brilliant white feathers which set off his coal black eyes. He is an adult, which means he's past the chaotic energy of youth. Like most pigeons, he is intelligent and social and does not mind other pets in the household. He makes the pigeon cooing sound that is so soothing to the human ear. He will need a very large cage as his home base and should have daily time outside his cage for exercise. He prefers a grain diet which we can tell you about. With us, he insists on inspecting his food before eating it. We are not sure why because he always eats it after his inspection. It is fun to watch him inspect and then decide it is good. He is a preener which means he spends lots of time inspecting and cleaning his feathers followed by lots of strutting around to make sure we know how beautiful he is. Adopting John Paul means gaining a feathery companion who will bring tranquility, fun and a unique charm to your life. Come to our shelter to meet John Paul and see his aviary. Perhaps you will decide a pigeon would be a very good addition to your family. We hope so.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
