Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
After a good Samaritan found Sonya alone and afraid in the county, she brought her home and kept her safe until Harrison County Animal Control picked her up and brought her to our shelter. Sonya is rather new to our shelter and we are still getting to know the ins-and-outs of her personality, but what we do know is that her owners never came to reclaim this BEAUTIFUL girl. And why? Sonya is very demure, very mindful. She`s great with personal space and has been friendly towards the other dogs she has been introduced to here. She walks well on a leash, but is still learning basic commands like, `sit, shake, lay down,` etc. She is roughly 4 years old and weighs only 45 pounds but we anticipate that after putting on a few extra (needed) pounds, she`ll sit somewhere close to 50-52lbs

HSSM is home to over 300 pets on any given day, most of which are looking for new forever homes! Your new best friend could be waiting at HSSM right now. Our beautiful, 41,000 square foot facility is currently open to the public. HSSM is open for adoptions Tuesday – Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. No appointment is necessary to adopt, however, adoptions are first-come, first served. You must come to HSSM to complete your adoption and make sure you bring a photo ID, as it is required to complete adoption paperwork.
Our adoptable animals page is self-updating and displays ALL of HSSM’s adorable adoptable pets from “pocket pets” to birds and of course the hundreds of dogs and cats currently calling HSSM home! See one you like? Make sure you note your favorite’s name and animal ID number so that HSSM staff and volunteers can easily find him/her when you come in!
Adoptions are cut off every day about 30 minutes prior to closing and possibly earlier if volume is high. Weekends are busy and you may have to wait more than an hour (especially in the afternoons) so please be prepared.
