My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Buttons and House are looking for a barn home together! Buttons is a 6 year old female and House is an 3 year old male. Buttons and House have been assessed as semi-feral. Semi-feral cats are those who do not allow handling nor do they enjoy the company of humans. They would prefer living in an outdoor environment and are not intended to be companion pets. Buttons and House have been paired based on their socialization status and have not been housed together at Kitsap Humane. Proper introductions will still need to be facilitated between them. If you are interested in adopting Buttons and House to be working cats on your property, stop by the shelter any day during adoption hours to speak with an adoption counselor today!

*Barn cats require a secure indoor enclosure where they can be kept confined. After they are able to have outdoor access, they should continue to have access to this safe indoor space for protection from weather and predators. The indoor space could be a shed, garage, workshop, barn, etc. but should have four walls and a roof and be able to be entered by the caretakers in order to feed the cat and clean the litter box. Barn cat caretakers should expect to provide access to a litter box even after the cat is able to go outdoors, will need to feed the cat and provide fresh water daily, and will need to provide routine vaccines and medical care if the cat becomes sick or injured.*

Additional adoption info

Entry to the shelter is currently limited, and walk-ins are not permitted for general pet viewing. Masks are currently optional.

View our Available Pets page and select a few that you would like to meet. Then download an Adoption Application and fill it out prior to visiting our shelter. Our adoption process is a walk-up and queue-based, first-come, first-served system. You will have a meet and greet with an Adoption Counselor to discuss your application, review information on the pets you would like to meet, and you will be introduced to the pet(s).If the Meet and Greet is a success, staff will complete your adoption paperwork to make it official! If your new family member is already spayed/neutered, they will go home with you right away!

More about this shelter

Kitsap Humane Society is a private, nonprofit animal shelter. We rescue and rehome over 6000 pets each year. Every dog or cat leaves our shelter spayed or neutered and with complete vaccines and a microchip. We have been caring for animals in need since 1908 and envision a time when all adoptable pets have loving homes.

We are extremely proud of our exceptionally high “lives saved” rate of over 96%. Through our active adoption, behavior, foster, transfer, and veterinary programs, we are able to rehome every adoptable animal that enters our facility. No animal is ever euthanized for lack of space.

In addition to caring for and adopting animals, we also provide spay/neuter services to low income residents of Kitsap County, and provide Animal Rescue and Enforcement services to our surrounding municipalities.
