My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Buttercream* is a very special girl- she was trapped on a property and has been acclimating to the indoor life ever since. She is quite shy, but learns the sounds of your voice and pops her head out from under her favorite blanket to greet you. Life has been hard for this girl, so she would need a patient doting home where she could blossom and come out of her shell. She was living in a cat colony and may do well with other cat friendly cats. She spends a lot of her time hiding and a lot of new things can scare her. A quiet home with a cat savvy adopter would work wonders for her. She has been outdoor until she ended up at the shelter and may do well being and indoor/outdoor cat but would need to bond and imprint in her new home (months to a year at least) prior to going out again. Or she could possibly acclimate to an indoor home provided she have enough enrichment and stimuli. If youre that special person looking to adopt that special cat, Buttercream is your girl!

Now through December 23rd – the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter is hosting “Home for the Holidays”. This adoption event reduces the adoption fee for all cats, rabbits and dogs to $50.

Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
