My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Do you have the heart for a sweet French Bulldog with special needs? Bella, age 6, has lots of love to give to her humans. She enjoys watching TV, following her foster mom from room to room, laying on the sofa next to her, and guarding the house by keeping track of any movements in front of her house. Bella is crate-trained and sleeps in her crate at night. She also likes to go for short walks. As you can see Bella is a pretty normal dog.

Bella was born with a spinal defect that affects her back legs. She can walk but has an unusual gait. This does not stop her from getting around. She is slower and sometimes unsteady on her back legs. The other problem that is caused by this spinal defect is that Bella doesn't always have a strong sensation of needing to go to the bathroom. If she signals that she has to go outside, it is immediate, or she goes right where she is or by the door. A regular schedule of letting her out is recommended and diapers also help with this problem. We think that Bella would do better in a no-other-pet situation as she has always been an only dog and is known to resource guard her food dish and toys if another dog is present.

Bella's foster mom absolutely adores her and has worked around Bella's limitations. Please let us know if you might be this special person or family. We would be happy to work with you to help Bella make the transition into your home. She really is a sweet, good girl, and she is beautiful!

Donation
AZBTR is an all-volunteer, Federal 501(c)(3) non-profit rescue organization for Boston Terriers in most areas of Arizona. In addition to rescue, our volunteers provide medical care and/or rehabilitation for these dogs and then attempt to match them with appropriate, permanent homes. Through public education, we strive to help eliminate pet overpopulation by encouraging the spaying/neutering of pets. Our efforts are made possible by the gift of volunteerism that our members donate and by public donations. Donations: Your financial donation is tax deductible. We will be happy to provide a donation receipt suitable for tax purposes for any donation over $25.00. Donations are accepted via PayPal on our website. Or, you can make donations by check made out and mailed to: Arizona Boston Terrier Rescue P.O. Box 15555 Scottsdale, AZ 85267-5555 In addition to cash, our rescue gratefully accepts items we can use for our rescued Bostons, including crates, bedding, collars, harnesses and leashes, food and water bowls, grooming supplies, toys, and food and treats. We have a particular need for crates. We send crates out as "loaners" when people foster or adopt dogs, and this year we've had so many dogs we are out of crates to loan with our rescued Bostons! Thank you for considering a donation to the Arizona Boston Terrier Rescue.

Additional adoption info

Everyone wishing to adopt through our rescue must complete an application, downloadable from our web site. We welcome applications from potential adopters who are able to love a dog with special physical or behavioral needs. No one is asked to adopt a dog with issues they cannot handle.

While we usually experience a steady flow of incoming Boston Terriers needing to be rehomed, we also have a steady flow of people and families seeking to adopt a Boston Terrier through AZBTR. Our goal is to match our dogs to the best suited homes based on the individual dog's needs.

If acquiring a dog is a time sensitive issue for you or your family, rescue may not be for you. If you are willing to wait for the right rescue to come to you, you are an ideal candidate for AZBTR. It could be days, weeks, or months before we find a Boston Terrier that we feel is a good match for you. As our success rate proves, these precious dogs are well worth the wait.

We carefully screen potential adoptive families, including interviewing adopters, checking references, and visiting homes. We prefer that adoptive homes have fenced yards because we do not place dogs in situations where they will be chained out or allowed to run loose. During the home visit we look for potential hazards for the Boston that the adopter may not have considered.

We want adopters to be happy with their adopted Boston, too, so we learn as much as we can about the dog's history and temperament: is he/she good with children, other dogs, cats? Everyone needs to be happy as a result of the adoption process.

We are very careful about the placements we make. We do our best to match the right Boston with the right adoptive home, because we want this to be the dog's permanent home.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

Arizona Boston Terrier Rescue is now holding adoption events at Pet Planet College Park in Tempe on the first Saturday of each month. This adoption event is from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This is an opportunity to meet Boston Terriers that are available for adoption.

Our Boston Terriers are not available for immediate adoption since we require a home visit prior to adoption, however these meet and greets allow you to talk to volunteers about the dogs that are available. If you have already submitted an application or are approved to adopt, please come on down and meet our adoptable Boston Terriers….you never know which one will capture your heart.

More about this rescue

Arizona Boston Terrier Rescue, Inc. (AZBTR) is an Arizona non-profit corporation dedicated to the rescue and re-homing of unwanted Boston Terriers, education of owners on responsible dog ownership, and education of the public on the Boston Terrier breed.

AZBTR began life as the Rescue Committee of the Valley of the Sun Boston Terrier Club, a club founded in 1974 by a group of Boston Terrier lovers and breeders. As responsible breeders they knew that, in addition to improving and protecting the breed, it was also their obligation to help individual Bostons that needed new homes.

Over the years, more and more Bostons needed help, and the Rescue Committee's operations grew to the point that it made sense to form a separate Boston Terrier rescue with the exclusive goal of helping dogs that needed new homes. Arizona Boston Terrier Rescue, Inc. was born as a free-standing non-profit corporation in 2006.
