Payton is a snuggler that wants to be near his people as much as possible. He’s a scruffy little guy with perky ears and curly-cue tail, who is happy to sit in a lap all day long or find a good spot near you to lay down on a soft bed.
Payton does okay with other dogs and tolerates them being around. He's not a fan of interacting with other dogs and will let them know if they get too close / familiar with him.
He has not been tested around kids, but we would suggest a home with older children since he has had a few grumpy, growly moments when he does not want to get off the bed. Payton has done well when meeting strangers, and warms up to new people very quickly
Payton gets excited to go outside, and he has been pretty good about going potty when you let him out. He likes going for walks and does well on a leash, He enjoys exploring our fenced in yard but overall is not a very active dog. He will bark some at people passing by, but usually only when other dogs start.
He does have an issue with marking both inside and outside. But we have been working on it and have noticed definite improvement in the frequency of marking inside. His recent neuter surgery should also help. Belly bands will be useful in the beginning at his new home.
Payton has also made great progress on sleeping in his kennel and is comfortable there sleeping through the night and when we leave the house. It's not his favorite place, but when guided towards it he goes in without a problem and very little whining, if any.
He has not yet shown interest in toys, but he recently had to have all his remaining teeth pulled so we are hoping he might show interest when he has healed. He's able to eat dry food that has a small kibble and has no trouble with wet dog food. He prefers treats that are smaller and soft/moist - training treats work great with him!
Payton is a real sweetheart that you shouldn't pass up!
