My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jake is an active, fun-loving cat who adores being around *his* people. He may be a bit shy at first with new faces but quickly warms up. While he's not fond of being held for long, he loves interactive play and would thrive in a home with older children who understand his independent side. Jake has lived with other cats and generally does well, though his energy level was a bit much for a more senior feline. If he joins a multi-cat home, a social and playful cat would be a great match. Jake's favorite activities include batting around toy mice, chasing feather wands, and scratching on a good rope scratcher. He's ready to bring his spirited energy to his forever family!

More about this shelter

The Maryland SPCA connects wonderful pets to loving owners. We are not affiliated with any national animal organization, and we do not receive any government or United Way funding. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals through fostering the humane relationship between animals and people. We operate primarily in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.

To make sure that our dogs and cats do not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem, every one is spayed or neutered before going into a new home. The cost is included in the adoption fee, as are the costs of shots and other necessary care. In addition, a free Positive Pooch class is available to our dog adopters.

There is no set time limit for how long an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as an animal maintains general good health and a sound temperament, we keep him or her until adopted. We pride ourselves on providing premium care to the animals in a clean, pleasant environment. Our adoption staff works diligently to pair up adopters with the best animal match for their homes and lifestyles.

We transport animals from other shelters to our adoption center to help more animals get adopted. We also help pet owners find new homes for their pets so their animals don’t need to enter shelter care.
