Meet Mimi, a delicate little lady looking for a patient and understanding home. Mimi is a fearful dog who takes her time warming up to new people and situations. She struggles with medical handling and will need a family that can respect her boundaries and help her feel safe.
Despite her nervous nature, Mimi has a gentle heart and a lot of love to give to those who earn her trust. The ideal home for Mimi will be calm, predictable, and free from overwhelming noises or demands. Her new family should be experienced with shy dogs and ready to work with a trainer if needed to help her grow more confident.
If you have the time, patience, and love to give Mimi the second chance she deserves, she might just become your most loyal companion. Could you be the hero Mimi needs?

Adopters can stop in during open hours to find their new pet! There may be different criteria based on the individual animal.
2.
Submit Application
Our application is more of a survey in person. We find out more about your home and lifestyle to make sure the adoption will be fur-ever.
3.
Meet the Pet
We will provide you with all the information on the pet and then set you up with a space to interact with your potential new best friend.
4.
Sign Adoption Contract
Super easy and can be done through your phone!
5.
Pay Fee
Yep! Fees vary based on age and species.
6.
Take the Pet Home
So long as the pet is already spayed/neutered, they can go home the same day as adoption. Congratulations!
Additional adoption info
We invite you to visit the shelter locations and meet the animals and the adoption team!
Our adoption process is aimed at matching you, your family and your current pets with our animals for adoption. An adoption counselor will introduce you to our animals in a private meeting room. We will share information about the animal's medical and behavioral needs as well as their history.
When you find the right pet for you and your family, the adoption counselor will assist you in completing the proper paperwork. This process includes signing an adoption contract, reviewing medical history and providing proper pet care information.
What you will need in order to adopt:
A valid photo ID with your current address.
We recommend all members of the household meeting the animal before adopting.
If you are interested in adopting a dog and have other dog(s) living in your household, it is recommended that all dogs meet each other at the shelter.
Certain animals require additional steps or requirements.
Adoption fee is accepted in cash or credit/debit card. Checks, American Express, Discover, Care Credit are not accepted as payment.
PLEASE NOTE: We are not able to place a hold or accept a deposit for animals that are not available for adoption, that you have not done a formal meet and greet with, or over the phone. Adoptions are approved for the first qualified home. Adoption is not guaranteed and is at the discretion of Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh.
