My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cuddly chonkie boy!

Hi, I'm Elliot! I’m a 6.5-year-old, 54-pound male neutered terrier mix, and I’m looking for my forever home. I came from the Rancho Cucamonga shelter after a volunteer reached out because I wasn’t doing so well there. The shelter people loved me, but I was pretty stressed. Since then, I’ve been adjusting to home life and I’m a sweet and affectionate boy. Potty training and leash walking is still in progress, but I’m getting the hang of it, and I’m crate trained (I sleep like a champ all night). I’m on some meds to help with my skin allergies—Apoquel keeps me feeling good and I also take Prozac to help manage stress. I’ve got some medical needs, but nothing too crazy (my meds cost around $5 a month for the Prozac and about $170 for Apoquel, depending on where you get them).

I love cuddling and getting treats, and I’ve got a soft spot for plush squeaky toys (I carry them around like a prized possession!). I’m super chill at home—basically a couch potato—but I do enjoy my walks. I’m well-behaved when it’s just me and my human on the walk, but if I see another dog from a distance (about 80-100 yards), I get pretty fixated and need a strong handler to help me break my focus. I’m a gentle guy with people, especially once I get to know you. I do best in a mellow home as the only dog. I don’t get along with cats or small animals (no surprise there), and I’d recommend caution around other dogs. I’m kid-friendly, but since I’m still getting used to things, I’d probably do best with older kids who understand my boundaries.

I’m not a high-maintenance dog, but I’ll need a confident handler who can keep me calm when things get exciting. I’m fine being alone for a few hours during the day (about 4-5 hours max), but I’m still working on the potty training thing. If you’ve got a low-key home and are looking for a cuddly companion with a little quirky charm, I’d love to be your buddy! Come and say hi!

My adoption fee is $250 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
