My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jasper is being fostered in Waterford, MI.

This handsome hunk Jasper wants you to bring him "home for the holidays" to be his new furever family.  Jasper is a nearly 4yo (DOB 3/20/21) male blue merle standard Australian Shepherd weighing in at approximately 55lbs.  Jasper found himself in a shelter when he was surrendered due to his family's relocation out of the country.  This sweet boy is waiting for us to find his new Family to share his energy, enthusiasm and goofiness with.

Jasper is crate-trained, but definitely doesn't love it for more than brief periods of time.  He has been trusted, in his foster home, to have the run of the house with his foster's FurKids for as long as 7 hours generally without incident.  He is an occasional counter-surfer and based on his behavior it is apparent in Foster that he was fed tables scraps from his former family.  Counter surfing ceased in his foster home when the temptations of food on the counter were removed, although always reachable due to his size and curiosity.  That being said, Jasper is very food and reward motivated making him very attentive to training efforts.  His foster mom is working on rewards based training Jasper with praise and pets, as he LOVES human attention.  Jasper knows the commands of sit, down, come or here, stay (somewhat) and wait (for his bowl to be placed) commands.

Jasper does well with other dogs once properly introduced and given time to acclimate.  His Foster transition was cautious, as his foster home has both male and female dogs in it, but he found his place in the pack after a few weeks.  Jasper loves playing with a variety of toys, but believes stuffies were meant to be de-squeaked and de-stuffed.  His favorite game seems to be tug of war with any kind of tug toy with his 4 legged foster brother or with a human.

Jasper would prefer a fenced yard to romp, run and play in.  He loves to play fetch and ball!  Jasper also enjoys being brushed and combed, either at home or with a professional groomer.

Jasper appears to bond quickly with his humans and seems to enjoy meeting all new people with proper introductions.  Due to his size and energy level, he would be best with children over the age of 10.  Even being on the larger size, he finds it necessary at times to be a lap dog.  He has a big goofy personality and speaks "Chewbacca" fluently while trying to get your attention.  He is SO silly! Jasper was let down by his humans once, we don't want that to happen to the sweet boy again.  All he wants is a human of his own to love on.  Is that you?  Consider adopting Jasper to become his furever person and renew his faith in humans.  If you meet Jasper you only need to gaze into his big soft brown eyes to know that he is a dog with a beautiful soul who just wants to give love and slobbery kisses and longs to be part of a family who will love him back.

Jasper is neutered, up-to-date on all vaccinations, negative for heartowrm, microchipped and receiving monthly prevention for fleas, ticks and heartworms.

Proof of heartworm prevention for any current or previous pets is required to adopt from our organization.  For more information on our adoption process or to complete an adoption application, please visit our website at www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org.

NOTE:  All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers so we need an approved application on file to set up a meet with a dog you might have an interest in.  Please visit our website for more information on our adoption process, our adoption fees and a link to our adoption application.  We pride ourselves on matches that work for both the dog and your family.  MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org

Additional adoption info

Meeting any dog within MASR requires an approved adoption application on file. We process as quickly as possible via volunteers. Then connect an applicant one at a time with a dog and foster home to arrange a meet and greet. If all parties at the meet and greet, including the dog, are in agreement that it is a good fit, the dog goes home that day.
