My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Licorice has earned a bravery award today for eating off someones hand!
She had to watch her brother Barry first before she mustered the courage, but well done little one, we know you have potential to be an amazing couch cuddler.
Until recently, this little girl, along with her kitty family has lived a life on the wild side but we have bigger dreams for her.
Licorice would do really well in a home with another cat or even with her brother Barry. She loves the company of cats and although she's very fearful she gains confidence from watching the more confident kittens. You'll need lots of love and patience to win Licorice over, but it will be worth it.
You can read about other shy cat success stories on our Shuswap facebook page, if you're up for the challenge, submit an online application below, and staff will contact the first suitable adopter to set-up a visit!

The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. Through its locations and operations across the province the BC SPCA provides emergency medical care and sheltering for more than 37,000 animals each year. The society also conducts more than 4,600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals through its Provincial Office.

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

3. Freedom from distress

4. Freedom from discomfort

5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
