My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Martha / Female / Approx. 2 years/ Weight 69lbs / Lab x Shepherd / Good With Dogs / Untested With Kids / Untested With Cats / From Tennessee / Fostered in Toronto

Meet Martha! Martha's foster describes her as a sweet girl who loves to cuddle.

Martha came to us from our partner rescue in Tennessee where she grew up with her littermates.

She loves playing with her humans, chew toys, and puzzle games! Martha is a big suck who would be the perfect Netflix buddy this winter.

She is a little shadow to her foster now, and likes meeting people. She prefers to meet them outdoors and is a bit fearful/nervous indoors when new people come into her space. While she hasn’t met any children, her sweet and gentle disposition lead us to believe that she would do well with dog saavy children.

This rural gal is slowly getting used to all of the sights and sounds of the city. Her ideal home would have a fenced in yard for her to run around in-she would be happy living wherever her person lives.

Martha lived with another dog prior to coming into our care. She would do well with a resident dog, it may even help build her confidence! We would not recommend cats due to her personality.

Currently, as Martha is still decompressing, she is not getting walks outside of potty time. At the moment, Martha expends most of her energy on enrichment activities such as games, puzzles, and learning new tricks. She is medium energy and will require at least two 30 minute walks in addition to potty breaks going forward.

Martha is working on getting her basics down. She is learning to walk on a leash, and pee outside. Once she’s on a full walk schedule, her foster believes she will be potty trained very quickly. She sleeps on a bed next to her foster, and is trusted with free reign of the housel. This very good girl has been left alone up to 4 hours without issue.

Looking for a mellowed out couch buddy? If you have a little patience and are willing to help this girl come out of her shell, you just may have a best friend for life in Martha!

Additional adoption info

To adopt one of our dogs, please fill out an application at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form. Although we do our best to reply to all inquiries within 72 hours, please remember we are a volunteer-run organization. We appreciate your patience.

If we think your application has potential to be a good fit, a Fetch + Releash volunteer will contact you to set up a time to speak over the phone and conduct the home visit. In addition to the phone interview and home visit, we also require personal, veterinarian, and landlord reference if applicable.

After the phone interview, home visit & reference check, you will then be granted a private meet and greet with the dog.

After the meet and greet, the adoption committee will then review your completed application and make a final decision.

More about this rescue

Established in 2016, Fetch + Releash is a volunteer run dog rescue dedicated to saving dogs in need. Our foster dogs come from a variety of different backgrounds such as shelters, strays and surrendered pets, both locally and abroad. Through our network of volunteers, foster homes, trainers and veterinarians, we strive to give every dog the loving forever family they deserve. As a foster-based rescue, our dogs live in private homes across the Greater Toronto Area where they receive the love and attention they need to ready them for adoption.

A dog is a lifetime commitment and not to be discarded due to health, lifestyle change or inconvenience. Some of the top reasons dogs end up in shelters are lack of training, lifestyle changes (i.e. new baby, marriage), relocation, cost of dog ownership, not enough time for pet etc. Our goal is to ensure our adoptive families are well versed in the realities of dog ownership and ready to make a lifetime commitment.
