My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rats are highly intelligent and social. They form strong bonds with both humans and other rats, and thrive if they have one or more companions of the same gender. Rats can `laugh` and have distinctive sounds they make when engaging in play with their companions. Rats benefit greatly from toys and other enrichment in their environment, and become bored quickly without new objects or activities to explore. Since they are so smart and engaging with people, rats can be a great low-maintenance alternative to a dog or a cat in a small apartment setting or for families with dog or cat allergies. Rats can live 2-3 years with proper care.

More about this shelter

We are an open admissions shelter, meaning we take in homeless animals regardless of age, breed, health, temperament or lack of space. On average, we take in about 5,500 stray, surrendered and abandoned animals per year including dogs, cats, small mammals, birds and reptiles. We provide adoption services to find safe, happy homes for these pets; and also provide low-cost vaccination and microchip clinics to help safeguard them against illness or being lost forever.
