My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Cow, a striking 3-year-old longhaired white and black cat weighing in at 16 pounds of pure love. Cow is a gentle giant with a heart as soft as his fluffy coat. He’s a bit shy and still adjusting to the unfamiliar sights and sounds of shelter life, but with a little patience and kindness, his true loving personality is sure to shine. Cow would thrive in a calm, quiet home where he can take his time to come out of his shell. If you’re looking for a sweet, low-key companion to snuggle up with, Cow might just be your perfect match!

More about this shelter

We are the Jefferson County Humane Society and , except for our humane officers (who are paid very nominally), we are all volunteers! Our members were instrumental in getting a local levy passed to build a new and larger shelter and the doors opened in 2011. We are currently participating in Iams Home for the Holidays Program and the Purina Pets for People grant program. We are actively pursuing other grants and recently have been asked by the county to partner with them in the operation of the new shelter. Since we are a humane society, our main focus is on getting animals spayed and neutered so there are no more homeless pets. To that end, we bring in a mobile animal surgical clinic who performs spays and neuters at a reduced rate. We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our efforts and, of course, for financial contributions (we are a non-profit, 501 (c)3) and pet adopters! Other items such as food, treats, pet carriers, cages, leashes, collars, food bowls, etc. are also ALWAYS welcomed and appreciated. Please contact us if you have an item to be donated or would like to volunteer with us to try to save some of these homeless, but very loveable, dogs!
