Meet Mortimer (aka Morty)! Morty is a 5-year-old, large mix breed with a striking white coat adorned with black spots and expressive, gentle brown eyes. This sweet, calm guy is as lovable as he is handsome. Though he’s a bit of a big guy, Morty has a soft and easy-going nature that will melt your heart.
He’s well-mannered and knows several commands, including `sit,` `stay,` `come,` `down,` `wait,` and `fetch.` If you’ve got treats on hand, he’s all ears—Morty is very food motivated, which makes him easy to train and redirect if needed. He’s also a toy enthusiast and loves playing with both people and on his own. Whether it’s a squeaky ball or a tug toy, Morty is always up for a fun game!
Morty is a curious dog when it comes to other animals. He’s not overly excited or pushy with dogs, and he’s shown mild interest in cats with a laid-back attitude. He can pull a bit on the leash, but with a slip lead and nose loop, he walks like a dream, especially when there’s a treat involved.
Though he’s calm in his kennel and enjoys napping on his bed, Morty would thrive in a home with older children due to his size and tendency to jump when excited. He’s potty-trained and has kept his kennel clean, proving he’s a smart and reliable companion.
Morty came to us from the Brownstown Animal Shelter and is ready for his forever family. If you’re looking for a sweet, loyal, and playful pup who’ll be your new best friend, Morty is your guy!
If you would like to meet Mortimer please submit an application for him on our website https://www.friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs. He is neutered, up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. His adoption fee is $250, which helps cover the cost of the medical care he has received.
**Each dog is different, so each adoption is different. Our adoption process might require multiple visits to the shelter before our dogs can go home. Or they may be ready on the first visit. It really depends on the individual dog and the potential adopters. Once we receive your application, the Dog Staff will contact you to discuss meeting our dogs.

We are a nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter comprised mostly of volunteers. We take in cats and dogs from local shelters and the public who can no longer care for their pets. Each of the volunteers at FMAR has a tremendous amount of love for animals and simply wants to do what they can to ensure that as many animals as possible find a forever home. Until then, each animal has a home at FMAR indefinitely.
