My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ophelia is a sweet and sensitive German Shepherd mix with a heart full of love, but she needs time to show it. She's fearful of new people, especially men, and takes her time to trust. However, once she feels safe and gets to know you, she transforms into a ball of affection, jumping with excitement and showering you with love.

Ophelia does well with a couple of dog friends but can be reactive around unfamiliar dogs, so slow and proper introductions are essential. She'll thrive with continued support and confidence-building leash training, but for now, a securely fenced yard is a must. She's not yet comfortable enough to go on walks for bathroom breaks, so having a safe yard where she can relax and adjust to her new routine is key.

Ophelia is looking for a patient, understanding home with someone who can offer her the love, security, and time she needs to blossom into her true, loving self. If you have the heart to help Ophelia grow in confidence and give her a forever home, she'll reward you with endless loyalty and affection.

The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. Through its locations and operations across the province the BC SPCA provides emergency medical care and sheltering for more than 37,000 animals each year. The society also conducts more than 4,600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals through its Provincial Office.

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

3. Freedom from distress

4. Freedom from discomfort

5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
