My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Introducing Pookie.
Pookie is a terrier mix who came to us alongside Lottie, Buddy, and Chesty. Shelter life has been a big adjustment for this gentle soul, and he's still feeling quite scared here. With his soft eyes and quiet presence, Louie is looking for a patient, loving home that can help him feel safe and confident again. He would thrive in a calm, understanding environment where he can learn to trust at his own pace. If you’re willing to give Pookie the time and care he deserves, he’ll be forever grateful and loyal. Could you be the one to help Louie come out of his shell? An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt. Dog adoption fees are $250.00 for all puppies and adult dogs. Seniors are a donation of choice.
Cats and kittens are a donation of choice.

More about this shelter

At DeKalb Humane Society, we are passionate about finding forever homes for the pets in our care. Whether they are cats, dogs, or other furry friends, our mission is to provide them with a loving and nurturing environment.

We also believe in the importance of education about responsible pet ownership. We strive to educate our community about pet welfare, the benefits of spaying/neutering, and the prevention of animal abuse and neglect.

By adopting a pet from us, you are not only gaining a lifetime companion, but you are also contributing to our cause and helping us raise awareness. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these innocent animals.

The DeKalb Humane Society filed for our Certificate of Incorporation on December 23, 1975 and we were granted 501(c)3 status in March of 1976. We are committed to being a no-kill shelter and serving the DeKalb County area.
