Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hey there, I’m Athena, a terrier mix with a bit of a tough past. To be honest, I didn’t come in as the friendliest dog on the block. I was terrified and pretty defensive—after being tossed out of a car, I think anyone would be! It took weeks of treats and lots of patience for me to even let the "dog person" get close enough to help me out of my cage. But now that I know they mean well, I’m letting my guard down, little by little.
I’ll be real with you—I’m still on edge around new people. I might growl or bark if someone gets too close too fast, so I’m looking for a person who really gets dogs like me. Someone who understands that I need time, understanding, and probably a bit of training to feel safe. If you’re experienced with dogs who need a little extra care, I know I could be the right fit for you. No, I’m not perfect, no dog is, but I’ve got so much love to give if you’re willing to give me a chance. With the right person by my side, I believe I can be an amazing, loyal companion. An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt. Dog adoption fees are $250.00 for all puppies and adult dogs. Seniors are a donation of choice. Cats and kittens are a donation of choice.
