Skips ACCT-A-207496 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Skips must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER, FOSTER, or ADOPTER by SATURDAY, DECEMBER 28TH at 10AM. Should Skips’ medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.
With excited toe taps, soft eyes, and a wagging tail, Skips is always ready to brighten your day. Skips enjoys showing off his friendly, affectionate nature. His loose, happy body and love for belly rubs make Skips a total sweetheart who thrives on affection. He wasn’t interested in toys or treats during his evaluation - he was far too focused on making friends! If you’re looking for a loving, playful pup who just wants to be by your side, Skips is ready to be your buddy. Skips has met other dogs while at the shelter, so if you have any at home, please bring them along for a meet! Skips does have some medical concerns, including being pigeon-toed and having a swollen area on his back, which do not appear to bother him. Due to his length of stay, Skips is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner, foster, or adopter.

MEDICAL:
On 12/4, his facial wounds were observed to be healing appropriately.
On 12/1, Skips had an exam because his URI symptoms were worsening. He was coughing frequently, had nasal discharge, and was not interested in food. He was prescribed enrofloxacin in addition to an extended course of doxycycline. He tested positive for pneumovirus, but retested negative on 12/17 and will finish his medications on 12/24.
On 11/30, Skips received a recheck for his facial wounds. His cheeks were shaved and cleaned, and he was prescribed a topical treatment.
On 11/25, Skips received a recheck for the puncture wounds on his cheeks, which were shaved and cleaned.
On 11/23, Skips was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold" and started on doxycycline. At that time, he tested negative for pneumovirus.
On 11/20, Skips received an exam for various medical concerns. He had fresh, full-thickness puncture wounds on his cheeks and scratches on his neck and shoulder, was pigeon-toed, and had an area of soft swelling on his back. He did not appear to be bothered by any of these issues, and his wounds were not infected, although he was prescribed antibiotics. His wrist issues were noted as likely congenital but could potentially cause arthritis as he ages. The swelling on his back, which may be a growth, will be assessed and possibly removed at the time of his neuter.
During his intake exam on 12/20, Skips’ eyes were red, but his eyes, ears, and teeth were clean. He had wounds on both sides of his neck, a lump on his back, irritation on his left paws, and his wrists were bent inward.
