Dog Name: Viola
Breed: hound mix
Sex: female
Age: 3ish
Weight: around 30lbs but we are working on getting a few more pounds on her
Medical Needs: Violet is HW positive and will require treatment that is covered by Grass Roots Rescue. Treatment will consist of 2 back to back appts with a follow up appt for recheck 6 months later. These appts will be at Avenue Vet in Milford. Because of this, foster to adopt family will need to live within one hour of Milford and be willing to travel there for her appts. She also seems to favor one back leg, especially after sleeping all night the other bothers her when she first gets up but this does not seem to slow her down or really bother her much. She is starting some joint supplement chews that may assist with this.
Housebroken: Yes, absolutely no accidents for this girl and we are gone for long hours on work days
Crate trained: Doesn’t particularly love the crate but goes in without too much of a fight and is quiet once in
Good in the car: I have only had her in the car once to bring her to my home and she was crated and did not lay down the whole ride. Her previous foster family did say that she would drool and have anxiety in the car with them so this may be something she could use some work with
Good on a leash: She definitely hasn’t spent much time leashed because she zigzags and will sometimes wrap you up when following her sniffer
Energy level: medium. Viola books it out of the kennel when we get home but hasn’t done much of any zoomies once out in the yard and really would rather be asleep on the couch with her friends.
Need a fenced in yard: no. Obviously it couldn’t hurt, but she mostly just does her business and comes right back to the door to be let in to resume her couch potato duties
Dog Friendly: yes. She has not shown any signs of resource guarding or aggression toward the resident dogs
If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No, but she definitely prefers not to be alone. If she doesn’t have any animal companions she would definitely love some humans that spend a lot of time at the home
Cat Friendly? Yes, doesn’t seem to pay any mind to them at all other than some initial sniffs out of curiosity
Kid Friendly: yes, she is a sweet gentle girl. She will occasionally jump up which we are working on but she is tiny so it hasn’t been an issue for my 7 year old
If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Any with proper supervision
Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? Viola is an amazing girl. She is QUIRKY and will army crawl on the grass and make funny noises when she scratches herself. Her previous foster said that she had a habit of jumping up onto countertops (guess that leg doesn’t stop her lol) and will absolutely seize her moment to steal food if given the opportunity. Viola definitely shows some signs of previously being mistreated and will cower when someone raises their voice, but she is sooo trusting regardless of what she may have been subjected to in her past. She loves her people and is eager to please. She’s not big on toys or treats, she really just seems to want a nice soft place to lay next to some doggo friends or humans and to get some pets. She would fit into just about any type of home in my opinion (except maybe one that wants to go on a lot of road trips lol). She is sure to supply you with a lifetime of laughs and love.
