My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Colt: The Gentle Giant With a Heart as Big as His Paws! ?

If you’ve ever dreamed of having your very own horse-sized best friend, your wish has come true! Meet Colt, a 1-year-old, lanky, lovable galoot who’s ready to gallop his way right into your heart (and probably your fridge).

When Colt came to us, he weighed just 115 lbs—skinny for a pup destined to grow into a 150-lb bundle of love. Now, with proper care and all the snacks, he’s well on his way to becoming the big, strong, and healthy boy he was meant to be.

Here’s what you’ll love about Colt:
? He’s a gentle giant: Despite his size, Colt is an easy-going guy on the leash—though his strength might make you feel like you should saddle up instead of grabbing the leash.
? He’s an overgrown puppy: With his tall, lanky frame and goofy energy, Colt bounds into every room like he’s auditioning for the canine Olympics.
? He’s got charm for days: Smiles? Check. Tail wags? Non-stop. Colt loves everyone and everything, and his gratitude for being rescued shines through in every wag and grin.
? He’s a foodie: Colt LOVES to eat (did we mention he’s growing?), and while he’s a perfect gentleman at mealtime, he’s tall enough to counter-surf with ease. Translation: Don’t turn your back on a sandwich unless you want Colt to rate your cooking!

Colt is the kind of dog who turns heads wherever he goes. He gets along wonderfully with other dogs, loves to run and play, and has the potential to be a fantastic family dog for someone with a big yard and an even bigger heart.

Abandoned before coming into rescue, Colt has been nothing but grateful for every moment of love and care he’s received. Now, he’s ready for his forever home—a place where he can grow, thrive, and bring endless joy to his new family.

Warning: Colt’s love is highly contagious, and you’ll quickly wonder how you ever lived without this goofy, gentle, galloping giant.

? Want to meet Colt? Contact us today! Colt is ready to ride off into the sunset with a family who will love him as much as he’ll love them. ??

Additional adoption info

Applicants have to fill out an application. Go to http://www.spgpc.com/adoptionprocess.htm The application consists of 4 pages and 60 questions relating fenced yards, whether they have had this breed before or large dogs. Three references are required, one from their veterinarian, one from someone they've gotten a dog from before (if applicable) and a personal reference. If the application looks good, then we proceed to the references. If the references are good then we schedule a home study to make sure the dogs will thrive in that environment. Finally we engage the applicants into a contract that spell out their responsibility to the dog and us and our responsibility to them and the dog they are adopting. We then assign a mentor to help them through the transition period and a 1 yr membership to the club. Whether they maintain the membership in force or not we are still a resource to them for the life of the dog. And should life happen, we always take our dogs back.

Go meet their pets

Our pets can be viewed by click the link: https://www.petfinder.com/pet-search?shelterid=CA957 or by visiting our web site www.spgpc. Dogs are housed at our private facility and appointments to view the animals are easily made by calling (916) 791-7580. We are located in Granite Bay, CA which is 23 miles East of Sacramento.
We often frequent adoption events, so dogs can be viewed at those sites when they occur.

More about this rescue

We belong to a breed club and take in Great Pyrenees and Great Pyrenees mix dogs. Once a dog is taken into our program, it is restored to health, brought current on all vaccines, micro chipped, had microscopic fecal exams and treated for parasites and worms and had a heart worm test. If positive they are treated before making adoptable and if negative, they are put on a heart worm monthly preventative as well as a preventative for fleas and ticks. All dogs are groomed prior to adoption and are in good health.
