Susie, Female, Domestic Shorthair, Black, DOB 7/14/22, spayed and vaccinated 3/14/23
Susie, 4 siblings and her mom were found by a woman in Waukegan in March, 2023 and taken to Spay and Stay where they were neutered and chipped.
The original Caretaker adopted the cats out to friends and family. It appears that at some time during the Fall of 2024, Susie was dumped by her Caretaker/Owner near Chipilli Woods in Northbrook where she made her way to our house just houses away from where she was released.
After a few days of feeding her, it became obvious that she wanted human contact, allowing us to pet her, laying on her back and rubbing up against us. She wasn't thrilled to be picked up, but she soon settled in to our spare bedroom. After an initial adjustment, she quickly took to her new space and seems to be perfectly content as an indoor cat.
Currently, she loves being petted and loves playing with her various toys as well as sitting on her perch looking out the window. She's growing accustomed to being picked up, but is still a bit shy/nervous about being held. We recently brought our 16 month grandson into the room and she was totally at ease. We have not introduced her to our 13 year old dog, but she has heard him bark and has shown no adverse reaction. I truly believe she would be fine with other pets as she seems very relaxed.
We know she'll make a wonderful addition to whomever is looking for a loving companion.
Susie is currently in foster care and she is available to meet by emailing the cat team at : cats@heartlandanimalshelter.org to schedule an appointment.
