Aloha, I’m Mrs. Claus! Yes, I know what you`re thinking—`Is she related to Santa?` Well, I can’t fly reindeer or make toys, but I do know how to steal hearts! I’m a 1-year-old, medium-sized, tail-wagging ball of sweetness here at the Kauai Humane Society, just waiting for my forever family to take me home. I might be a little shy at first (I mean, who wouldn’t be nervous when meeting new people, right?), but give me a bit of time and I’ll show you just how loving I am. I’m like that friend who’s quiet at the party but turns into the life of the event once they’ve had a snack and a few minutes to relax. I’m a social girl who loves everyone—humans and other dogs. I’d really love a family who’s into walks (I’m trying to build up my confidence, one step at a time) and cuddles at the end of the day. After a long walk, I’ll curl up next to you like the ultimate companion I am, dreaming of the next adventure we’ll have together. If you think you can help me come out of my shell and teach me how to be the confident dog, I know I can be, I promise to repay you with endless affection, loyalty, and a few goofy zoomies around the yard. Oh, and did I mention? I’m ready to either stay here on this beautiful island or hop on a plane to the mainland to join your family. Seriously, I’m flexible like that. We offer an off-island adoption package if you would like to have a 'cuddly Hawaiian souvenir' sent to your home! Email customerservice@kauaihumane.org if you see a dog or cat you're interested in adopting and live on another island or on the US continent.

The Kauai Humane Society was established by the community in 1952 as a local non-profit 501(c)(3) organization to protect Kauai’s animals. We opened our current home just west of Lihue in 2001 thanks to the generous support of many individuals, families, businesses and foundations. We are an independent animal welfare organization and not a chapter of any mainland or Hawaii group.
The Kauai Humane Society(KHS) is the only physical animal shelter in Kauai County, Hawaii. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with a government contract to allow KHS to provide services to Kauai County for humane field services for cats and dogs.
Our facility does not turn away any sick or injured cat or dog found on Kauai. We strive to not euthanize any healthy, adoptable, and/or treatable animals for space or treatable medical reasons.
In 2022, for the year overall, KHS achieved a Live Release Rate of 94.4%; meaning 94.4% of the animals that came into KHS during 2022 were released with a positive outcome of being adopted, returned to the owner, or transferred to a rescue group.
