Additional adoption info

To adopt a dog or cat from the HSYC we ask that you stop in during business hours. We will then introduce you to available animals and have a conversation to see what it is that you are looking for. We take great pride in talking with every person to make sure that the animal they choose is the right fit for both them and the animal.

More about this shelter

Our mission is: “to advance the humane treatment of animals in Yates County, New York. This is accomplished through actions and programs which promote the adoption of stray or unwanted animals. The HSYC has a Low-Cost Spay & Neuter Program available to income-eligible residents of Yates County and also tries to host two separate Trap, Neuter, Return programs to spay & neuter the feral cat populations. The Humane Society of Yates County depends on volunteers and private financial assistance from the residents of Yates County to carry out its programs”.

Every day our compassionate staff and volunteers provide food, shelter, medical care and comfort to the many animals that are abandoned or relinquished by their owners. We do not euthanize animals for space. The Humane Society of Yates County does not receive funds from the county. Public donations are currently our most important source of income.

In addition to our shelter, we also serve as the County's "dog pound". There we take care of all dogs brought in by the County's Animal Control Officer. We feed them, give them shelter and make every effort to see that they also find new homes.
